anyone hear anything about possible TCF Vike extended play? I can't imagine the NFL would allow anymore than 2 yrs outside of an NFL stadium.

I can not imagine they will start the demolition of the dome until other issues are resolved.

They are still scheduled to break ground this October so I'm not too worried it's going to be delayed yet.

Remember the work starts this year Oct while the Vikes are still playing in the dome. Dome doesn't come down until early 2014...plenty of time for accountants to figure it out...plus the NFL can step in and guarantee the Wilf's contribution and this all goes away. This delay is political cover for the legislators that pushed the stadium bill through and now want to seem responsible. It all goes away in 60 days one way or another IMO.

Don Ziggy will make them an offer they can't refuse.........

Seriously, I don't see any way the state backs out of the deal. This is just posturing by the politicians after the news about Ziggy and Co. getting nailed on the charges in Jersey.

And as far as the Wilf's contribution - Ziggy will not have to pay $1 out of his own pocket. do the math - Vikes share is $477million. NFL kicks in $200million - but the Vikes can pay that back with funds that would otherwise go into the NFL revenue-sharing pool, so it's money that would have gone to the league anyway. Next, the Vikes will sell naming rights for up to $10million a year - or $200million over 20 years. Finally, the Vikes will sell PSL's so the fat cats will have to shell out extra money up front before paying for season tickets. Add it up, and Ziggy is esentially getting his half of the stadium for free.

This is all just smoke. They will break ground in October. Book it.

As long as they have X number of seats and cameras, etc. the NFL doesn't really care where they play. The original agreement (signed into law but agreed to by the U, Vikes and NFL) allowed for up to 4 years depending on how they built the stadium (if they couldn't play there this year and it took longer to build). So I don't think there will be any issues from the NFL if it's 3 years vs. 2 years.

That being said, the chances of this actually getting delayed are worse than me winning enough money to pay for the stadium in the lottery. As others have mentioned this is purely posturing. Someone will "look into" (which means vaguely look in the general direction of a file cabinet that contains the financials) and then proclaim that everything is fine. I'll be stunned if anything more than that happens.

Bad choice of words fuzzy. I used them once, and it came back to haunt me dozens of times. I hope you will have better luck using them than I did.

As much as I would like to see them go back to the drawing board and build a 500 million Lambeau like stadium in the burbs (with the state 1/4, local pay 1/4, vikes pay 1/2), I think we are stuck with the 1 billion indoor place.

Don't worry about this. This will all get resolved and the Vikes will still break ground in Oct and the dome will still come down in Februday of 2014.

You want bleacher seats everywhere? You can't build a "Lambeau like" stadium in 2013. Lambeau is a dump without the history. Lambeau is not special because of the stadium. Just like Wrigley.

If you built Lambeau in Anoka it would be just as crummy as the Metrodome.

Actually, MORE crummy. At least the Dome has their own seats.

This. While it's worse optics, this is less of a worry than when they had a hang-up over the price of the land for Target Field. Ziggy/the NFL have way too much to lose. Whatever has to be done to guarantee this, whether by Ziggy or Roger Goodell, will be done.

I disagree on this. I think what makes Lambeau great is that it's just a football stadium. The Cowboys new stadium and what I think the Vikings stadium will be are like Hollywood plastic surgery gone bad. Just give me a place to tailgate, an open air stadium, and fun people (Packers Fans > Vikings Fans...sorry).

Perhaps just as the NFL has a salary cap, they need a stadium cap, put an end to the stadium arms race.

I have always wondered what was so special about Lambeau Field. The Packers thought so much of it that they chose to play many of their games in a run down baseball stadium in Milwaukee for much of their history.

The perception is that Lambeau Field has some sort of Wrigley or Michigan Stadium type history, which it does not. As I previously pointed out, in the short era of success they had under Lombardi, Milwaukee County Stadium shared the team.
Lambeau Field is not even that old relative to historic football Stadiums like the LA Coliseum, Ohio Stadium, and Notre Dame Stadium; it is in fact about the same age as Indiana Memorial Stadium.

The structure itself for years was not much more thatn a concrete bench seated extended grandstand with chain link fencing functioning as an exerior wall. Prior to the 1990's upgrades, the IU Memorial Stadium (of all places)was probably a highly superior structure relative to the overhyped Lambeau.

It is rather interesting how and why some sporting venues are revered.

I know Dr.Don like to reminisce about the olden days at Northrop Field.

It'll naturally come to an end when most/all teams have a new stadium. The Vikings are one of the last, as the Twins were. There's only been one new stadium in MLB since Target Field opened, and there are none on the horizon. The new stadium arms race in MLB is basically over. Oakland and Tampa are the only two left, and they appear stuck. In the NFL, there's still a few to be resolved. Oakland, SD, St. Louis, Jacksonville, etc.

Not to get back on track with this thread...but I heard from a friend of mine that serious pressure is being brought to bear on the Wilfs right now by Dayton to have them basically take it in the shorts and be responsible for any/all overages and stadium construction, reduce the # of seats that have licenses and have the NFL guarantee the whole thing in addition to paying all the legal fees incurred during this negotiation and due process by the commission.

This is coming from NJ, not MN. I find this very interesting...maybe Dayton found his ballz.

The court of public opinion, and the courts of Joysey, forced him to find them.

You'd think that, but then you see that the Falcons are likely to get a new stadium to replace the Georgia Dome, which isn't that old. The Panthers and Dolphins are posturing for major improvements on the public dole, and the horrible deal that St. Louis made to get the Rams is biting them in the butt. I don't know if the stadium arms race will ever end in the NFL. Agreed that MLB really only has two issues in Tampa and Oakland. St. Petersburg has the league over a barrel and they know it - they can force the Rays to play in that dump for another 15 years or so. (and I don't know if a new stadium would help them anyway - I think it's a market problem.) The A's are the team that deserves a new stadium, but they want to move to San Jose, and the Giants are blocking it.

The stadium issue in NFL and MLB will never end. It might slow down but it will never go away.

I heard the Vikings are scrapping the idea for an extended play and have decided to write a few more songs and release a full album instead.

Life was so much more simpler when there was just a Side A and a Side B.

No!! I love the Vikes, but get them out if The Bank as fast as you can. That's the Gophers home not home to the NFL.

All temporary homes are short lived. Live with it.

I don't want to "live with it". Unlike you I sit in that stadium for football games. It's college not the NFL. Temporary bleachers and temporary Gopher logos on the field are just not right.

As long as there remains one potential city for relocating, teams will have leverage to get a new stadium. With 32 teams, someone's stadium will be the oldest. Part of the push for new stadiums isn't that the stadiums are no longer useful, but that other team's new stadiums are bringing in more revenue, and they feel they need a new stadium to compete. If we had a stadium cap, stadiums would last longer.
