vikes get our locker room

They still are not allowed to step on our "M"

Dollars to doughnuts, some dopey Iowa grad will try to step on it. It should be fully replaced at that player's expense.

No 'Viking Paint on the Field'.

Is this a wish or a statement of fact? I love that this game is being held at the Bank, but my biggest concern is the Vikings trying to paint over the end zones and the midfield M. When Chicago and Seattle played their seasons at college stadiums recently, the field was left untouched. I hope that is the case here. The U should demand it from a marketing/recruiting standpoint.

It is my wish.

I'm not sure, but I think the "M" at midfield and "Minnesota" are not painted on, but the real turf color. I remember photos of the installation of the field, and it looked like they were sections to the field. Meaning, they would have to take the turf out to replace it, not suck the paint off like they do in the Dome.

If they can pain over green turf i'm sure they could paint over maroon turf. Just don't let them. Did anyone notice how the purple paint at Detroit was smearing all around the Vike logo.

It is part of the turf. If they wanted to have the Vikings logo at midfield, or in the end zones, they could paint over it. But it would take a lot of paint. For example, at Ford Field, you could see through where the Vikings painted their logo. Attempting to cover up our maroon would be quite difficult, and would require a LOT of paint.

I hope the Vikings wipe their feet before entering Gopher locker room.;)

And you could see through where the Vikings painted. It often takes multiple coats of paint to cover over red (maroon too), so if they tried to paint a Vikings logo, it would just be a mess.

I wrote Maturi urging him not to allow the Vikings to paint the field.

When the Vikings play on Monday at TCF Bank Stadium I urge you not to let them paint over our logos on the field, for the following reasons:

1) It would be great advertising for the U to have our M at midfield, and for our end zones to be maroon.
2) With so much to do to get the stadium ready, painting the field should be the last priority.
3) When the Vikings logo was painted on Ford Field, you could see right through it. If you tried to paint over the M at midfield, the M would show right through, meaning that you would have to use several layers of paint to gover it up. This might be a real problem in the cold.

True, red is a tought color to cover. Next time you try it use a primer. But not at TCF

I love how everyone wants all these 'conditions.' If you're going to let them use the stadium, you let them do what they want (within reason of course.) They obviously will want to get as much of the normal logos advertisements up as possible. I think common sense will prevail and they certainly won't try and paint over the midfield logo. The endzones might be a different story.

Everything is sewn INTO the field and can't be replaced unless the whole thing is ripped up...

It's easy to paint over maroon. Lucky for us it's really hard to paint over red. :)

They are going to need to be applying A LOT of ice melt to the field and any attempt at paint would be a disaster. Even so I don't think there would be any desire to paint over colored turf. I can't remember seeing this done anywhere. The Lions logos are painted on and you could tell they had been washed from the turf.

so much win, vikings playing at TCF with Minnesota logos on the field? win. Just don't update the Big Ten logo.

I highly doubt the Vikings have any interest in painting-over the UofM logos. They painted Ford Field because the Lions are a conference rival.

The Vikings (and ESPN) have a vested interest in letting people know that this game is not being played at the Dome or Soldier field. The novelty angle is this game's best asset considering neither team is going to to the Super Bowl. Why hide what's going on?

This is a good move for Wilf because (despite all the whining from Paul Allen-types), this shows that they are somewhat serious about playing in an outdoor stadium. Before this, the idea that Viking fans (and its owenership) would take the team outside without a fight was ROTFLOL-able at best.

This will be the first time many of our local sports 'media' are in TCF.

NFL stadiums are designed to either have sections of turf that are easily removable or easy to paint over because they host different events. Whether it's Jerryworld hosting college football games, or the Meadowlands switching between a Jets or Giants game, They remove sections and logos. Detroit hosted a Super Bowl, so they probably designed the field to be easily converted. The only thing they need to paint on the field are NFL hash marks.

Considering the Vikings are at least playing in Minnesota this time, they probably won't care that the endzones say Minnesota but have different colors then preferred.

During the broadcast of the game in Ford field they mentioned how the special field paint was trucked in from ohio or wherever it's made in a heated truck because it can't be allowed to freeze.

So, I'd be surprised if they can come up with a paint alternative that can be applied in cold weather, onto wet/frozen/deiced field turf.

I can't imagine this would be a top priority for the U of M staff. Getting the snow off and getting everything else ready should keep them pretty busy between now and Monday.
