Video: Texas A&M's new football complex (flat screens above each sink)

That has got to give Oregon a run for its money. How much did it cost? Oregon's was 70 million. I would be very happy if our new facilities we equivalent to Iowa State's new complex.

They are also going from this

The locker room was a $16 million renovation, as part of a $32 million overall renovation to an existing building (other projects include a player nutrition center and a trophy room / lobby. The weight room is in a building next door, and the $9 million project that opened in 2012 gave us one of the largest weight rooms in the country.

It means it's about us as a team, not about me as an individual.

^ ignore such posters. There is a lot of envy and misdirected anger but some here on the GH. I commend what A&M has accomplished and hope we can do the same. The U is off to a great start with TCF. Despite a couple of negative Nancy's around here, I believe Teague will get it done with both the football and basketball facilities. Kill and Pitino have things going in the right direction and the donors will come to the table to help out. It may not be at the level of A&M, but few programs do. The U will do just fine.

Go Gophers!

Hoping you're right. But when we someday manage tobuild a new facility, we'll end up middle of the pack.....for about five years. The arms race is ridiculous.

If that's a "pay to play" argument I don't know if I agree with your point. If you were talking about something different, nevermind.

It's about the athletes being held on a pedestal and the school acknowledging that they are more deserving of opulence and excess than any other student at the University.

I think it's also about us as college football fans putting them on a pedestal through how we spend our money. We'll gladly shell out $250 for a football ticket without blinking an eye, but when is the last time any of us paid to attend a student research week or a science fair at the university? These facilities are largely paid for by donors and ticket sales, and as long as donors are pouring money into athletics facilities, athletics departments are going to spend it. When you have donors interested in academic facilities, that's when you get fancy upgrades to classrooms.

Here's a recent pic of the stadium progress. Our first home game is a month from today. We will resume redevelopment of the stadium after Thanksgiving by bricking in the Zone as seen on the right and completely rebuilding the west side of the stadium from the ground up. Capacity in 2014: 106,300.

I hope Johnny Football's name is featured prominently somewhere among those additions, since the hysteria he created (and subsequent fundraising gusher) is responsible for at least a good portion of it.

This was all in the works long before Manziel came to campus. His, and the team's, success has helped with fundraising, but I (and many Aggies) don't find it appropriate to associate any other names with the stadium besides Edwin Jackson Kyle and E. King Gill.

I think it’s safe to say once they get that stadium built that they have surpassed the longhorns as the State’s #1 program. Better stadium, better facilities, better conference, better recruiting classes the last 3 years, more draft picks, just produced the most talked about player in football and frankly just a better team.

Long way to go and lots of time before you can make that claim. Texas had 10 straight seasons of finishing in the top 13 from 2000-2009. Texas A&M went that entire stretch without finishing ranked. Yes, Texas has hit a dry spell only finishing ranked once in the last 4 years but Texas A&M in that same stretch has only finished ranked 3 times and only 1 time did they break the top 13.

It's a little premature to say they've passed Texas.

Thanks, Coach Fran. It's taken years to recover from what he did to this program.

But, in happier news, here's a pic I took from inside the stadium a few minutes ago:

Also, this is a freshman. You'll be hearing the name Myles Garrett soon:

 :D

I'm now in a happy place where I don't have to think about our program in the early 2000s.

^ akin to the Brewster years only we're a bit behind you guys. Both programs moving in the right direction.

Gig 'em and Go Gophers!

Already heard his name plenty of times in the Under Armor game. “And Myles Garrett again!"
