Video Highlights: Andre Hollins Leads Minnesota Past Wake Forest, 84-69

Go Gophers!!

LateNightPoops would medical readshirt him.

LNH says:
The rising senior guard is far and away Minnesota’s best returning player, but his health is a significant concern. It hasn’t been talked about much in the traditional media and the national folks may not even mention it heading into the season. However, it’s a relevant storyline to the 2014-15 season.
Dre Hollins suffered a bad ankle injury in January, but returned to action after missing a couple of games. Potentially more serious is that he’s been dealing with hip issues as well.

At 100%, Dre can be one of the Big Ten’s top performers and it appears that the plan is for him to play through any effects of his health issues. However, a possibility is this: if things are not going well 10 games or less into the season and season-ending hip surgery is deemed necessary, Hollins could be back for a fifth year in 2015-16.
In addition to not playing in more than 30% of the team’s games (as calculated per NCAA Bylaws), Hollins’ ability to be granted a hardship waiver would be subject to other conditions. Those other conditions include medical personnel stating that he is unable to compete for the remainder of the season.
Everyone will hope for the best, but keep an eye on game #11 if things are not going well.
