Very classy: Jimbo and Candi Fisher to deliver first check to UofM Fanconi Anemia

This is ESPN NCAAFB highlights. Look at all the scandals/fraud/rules violations. Seems like there would be plenty of room for a nice story instead of the dark side of college football.

Cool story, wish I could be there at the check presentation.

This is really awesome (not awesome that his kid is sick, but the gesture), hopefully the story can be used on College Game Day later this year.

Don't know if it made it on BTN or not (I was at the game), but the check the Fishers presented today was for $500,000.

They got a well deserved standing ovation from the crowd.

I figured this was a timely bump. After watching Jimbo and his wife present a $500K check to the U of M after at a Gopher hoops game last year after their son had a tremendous amount of medical work done at the U, I had a lot of respect for him. Congrats to a classy family on an amazing national title.

Go Jimbo!!

Wow, the Fisher's have donated almost $2MM now:

Go Gophers!!

Safe to say a lasting relationship has been established by the Fishers and the U for research in this area, which is outstanding. Good vibes all around with this story! :D

Helping others is always a staple for strong and caring people. God bless the Fishers and hope their son recovers.

I've done research on this disease in conjunction with some of the people at the U.
The U of MN is the world leader in research and treatment for this disease, which unfortunately isn't common enough to warrant major funding from private pharmaceuticals.
The Fischers' likely are a funding "champion" so to speak for the research at the U, which I think has a good chance at finding meaningful, lasting treatment, and perhaps even a cure.
Just another reason to be proud of the U of MN.

Fanconi Anemia is one of many diseases that are so rare that all the research has to be from people directly affected by or someone with deep pockets that finds out about the disease.

Unfortunately, there was a great chance to publicize the gift again last month during the B1G-ACC challenge, when FSU's BB team was at The Barn. There should have been an acknowledgement of the gift both in the arena and on ESPN .

Thank you for posting the article. Kids just should not have to go through anything like this.
