Are these two schools getting shreaded by the local media for taking "SO LONG" to fill their coaching positions? Teague is getting ripped, but I think it is mostly by the Flip backers. I look at Flip as the best fall back plan any AD could ever have. If he is hire in a week, Teague still wins with the fans. Media will take some shots, but Teague was not going to hire Flip without going through his list of candidates.

Are any other coaches expected to get fired? Right now I only see the U competing against UCLA and USC for coaches and if UCLA still doesn't have a coach I have a feeling that all three will be going after Marshall if OSU beats them tomorrow. I'm ok with waiting because Flip will take the job.

How long will NT have the luxury of Flip as a fall back? Doesn't ego kick in at some point for everyone?

I think those that are overly worried thought they had someone in the bag and that we would know by now. I truelly thought we would have a coach by now but when you make runs at guys in good positions you are not always going to win them over with money or anything else. It IMO isnt as important who we hire but rather how that hire does with the program. If we hire or #8 choice and he gets us NCAA Tourny wins an Big Ten wins we wont care how we felt when he was hired.

Teague thought he had Shaka in the bag.. No one in their right mind pays out 2.5 Million to get rid of Guy coming off of the first NCAA tourney win in 20 years And a Very solid Historically high RPI of 34 without thinking he had a deal with super star coach

SCOUT, Norwood has done something that I didn't think was possible; he got people nationally talking about, thinking about, and looking at the Golden Gopher program. He will hire someone, and that someone might not be who everyone wants, but he has gotten people's attention. The value of a good leader is in taking in potentially negative situations and making them into a positive.

Another point: don't you think he did Tubby a serious favor by letting him go when he did? If he knew he wasn't going to keep him, even if he didn't have a coach in the bag, letting him go right away allows him to interview for other gigs. Now is the time when coaches find jobs; if he wants to fire him until later in the tournament or after, neither Tubby nor any of his assistants would have as good a shot to find something else.

The answer to the main question is no.

The rumor is that UCLA wants Donovan, so they know they have to wait. I realize that might be a pipe dream, but these things often take more than a week. It hasn't been a week . . .haha.

It's different here because of the Flip thing. People who love Flip thought it was a no-brainer, you fire Tubby and hire Flip. Well, if you didn't agree on Flip, it's going to take a bit.

I've run into a couple of trainables like The Scout who are going a little nuts, but they have no sense of these things.

To answer your question they have such high fan interest they get about 20 seconds play on local radio right after who the Dodger dog vendor for this year will be.

Usually I simply ignore "THE SCOUT" (all caps) posts on this site, as it appears he's either a 12 year old or a crazy old man. But this one takes the cake -- what an astounding amount of ignorance compressed into a 2 sentence post. I think I counted about 6 errors in 3 lines. Wow, congratulations!

Kareem wants the UCLA job. Good luck with that. The Bruins have made the Final Four only 5 times in the last 37 years. Ben Howland's teams were in 3 of them and he got the ax after winning the Pac-12 title!

They don't another Head Coach, they need another Sam Gilbert!

Yeah, it's what makes the UCLA coaching search interesting. They still consider themself to be a premier, top flight basketball school. They think of themselves like Kentucky thought of themselves before Caliparri went there. They have a lot of boosters with a lot of money. It'll be interesting to see where they take their big shot.

In LA, it's as much about style as it is about winning. Howland is a good coach, he'll get another job and do well. But he wasn't real LA. They'd prefer a more wide open game that would take advantage of the kind of athletes available to them.

To put it into perspective how things are different here. When I am meeting with clients in MN, it's all about our reputation of work, experience, and you need to look professional. I have two expensive suits, both of them are worn on rotation when I'm working in LA, if you don't have an expensive suit on when meeting with a prospective client. . .good luck. It's a different world here, sometimes it lacks common sense.

That's not true. It's about like college sports in this town. We don't have anything to currently root for, but it'd be like Gopher football news during the Vikes season.

I'm as eager as anyone to get the news on the new coach, but heck, the season isn't even over yet so a little patience is in order.

Marshall just lost yesterday, Buzz Williams is still playing, and if we're interested in any top flight assistants they may still be playing too. Shaka and Hoiberg may or may not have been offered the job ... fact is, nobody in the media knows anything for sure on this. From the sounds of it, though, both Flip and Grant would take the job if offered, and IMO either of those "fallback candidates" would be good hires. So I'm sure Teague and company are not sweating.

Marshall is still going.

But I agree with you, except forget about Buzz Williams.

Just so we don't see or hear about Flip signing a 10 year - 25 million dollar contract at UCLA...then I will lose it. I'm not kidding.

I see two possibilities:

1. The guy Teague really wanted has already turned him down, or
2. The guy Teague really wants is still coaching in the tournament.

If #1 is true, then all bets are off.
If #2 is true, then we're going to have to wait to see what develops.

I just don't want to see a repeat of the FB coaching search, where the Gophs wound up with their 4th or 5th choice, and had to try and sell the new coach to a very skeptical public and local media. If Teague doesn't come up with a fairly high-profile hire, then the U will be hammered in the media.

Ha. . .don't worry about that in the slightest. Mike Brown's name has been floated around a bit. He's their "Flip". He played college ball in SoCal, he has a really good winning percentage in the NBA (.653), he coached the Lakers.

Flip's name means about as much out here as Mike Fratello (that's not a rip on Flip, it's just Flip's positive attributes are specific to MN).

There is more of a concern that Andre Hollins quits the team and gets the UCLA job.

If you're a Kill fan now, why would that bother you?

The fact is that Calipari was Kentucky's obvious #1, Calipari openly campaigned for the Kentucky job, they had unlimited money. You'd think that Calipari's move to Kentucky would have taken 1 second. It didn't. It took 4 days. That is about as QUICK as possible considering the players involved. Trying to get the guy you want to come to MN, even if he is available, might take a little longer. The money is more of an issue, the facilities is more of an issue, and we aren't a top 3 job in the country.
