I recommend not missing this one. I was talking to the wife and we agreed that that game will be the next time either team wins. The Rebs gave up 699 yards and gained a little over a 100 yesterday against UNReno. They passed for 8 yards, 1 complete pass in 14 attempts. We can win this game!

I've got a buddy who turns 50 that day. We've had that circled since the date was announced.

We're going to have a pretty big contingent there.

We have about 12 in our group that will be there. Always a good time in Vegas. Hopefully we are a better football team next September.

Bumping this to see if I can solicit any advice from those who have been to a UNLV game. Will start thinking about/making plans over the holidays, so I'd like to have as much info. as possible. Sam Boyd stadium is near the airport, are you better off staying down at the Mandalay/Luxor end of the strip? Better to stay downtown for less and cab/shuttle it over to the stadium? Do people tailgate at UNLV (not sure how that would work, as we probably won't have a car or cooler). Any advice is appreciated. If you just want to tell me to get bent, that's cool too.

I don't have advice, but I've been scouting ahead for our group and have found that huge 4-5 BR/4-5 Bath homes with pools and hottubs that are withing 10 min of the Strip can be rented for $200-$300 a night (a minor positive of foreclosure/open home rates in the area I guess). So for our group (prob 4 couples) this is looking like a very inexpensive way to stay for the weekend. Will have to see how rental cars play in though. So, just an idea for anyone who is looking to save a little money and is traveling with a group of folks.

We have a big group, probably 15-20 at this point heading out there. I suspect this will be a big Gopher crowd.

Get bent.

Let's try and guess the opening line for this game that is a mere 9 months away.

Minnesota -14.5

We circled this date a while ago to attend, and are now turning it into my bachelor party. Can't think of a better way to spend Labor Day weekend. Definitely looking forward to a great game and weekend in Vegas!

Since the 2011 season is over for both teams and that game is the 2012 opener, then yes, by definition it will be the next time either team wins.

Ummm, nope. UNLV plays TCU this weekend. They are only 40 point underdogs, but technically they have a chance to win.

I just booked my room. We will be staying at a timeshare unit. We have about 12 that will be going to the game. Should only be about 105 degrees during the day. Good thing it's a night game.

I was in Vegas over Labor Day this weekend. You are correct that it's 105 during the day, as opposed to the 109-112 during the July-August months (I went the previous 2 summers at this time). It is very noticeably nicer even 5 degrees cooler. The shade feels more bearable, and the evenings cool off quicker meaning it isn't still a hair dryer in your face even at midnight.

For my money I like to stay on the strip as opposed to off it. Parking is free and typically very accessible. Hotels like the Flamingo, Monte, NY/NY, Treasure Island, and a few others are all nice and in great locations and offer rates right around $100/night over a weekend (we paid $95/night Thurs-Sun nights this Labor Day). Not shabby. I am still young, though, and walking the strip late in to the night with 24 oz beers in hand is still a fun pastime of mine. To anyone under 30 and/or without kids I'd recommend this. Fox Rent a Car is a 10 minute shuttle ride from the airport and cost us $85 for the weekend (cheaper than 2 taxi rides to/from the airport) and we could go anywhere we wanted. Just my 2 cents.

Are all their games at night?

Couple things: First off, NO, Sam Boyd is not anywhere near the airport. Sam Boyd is on the far east end of town (more Henderson really).

Tickets: Not a problem at all. UNLV football is not a hot ticket, you can get a seat anywhere, not long before the game.

Lodging: If you don't need the experiece of "the Strip", yes, staying off strip can save you a lot (not to mention a lot of hassle and headache). Most of the off-Strip casinos have great prices, especially on weekdays. Sunset Station or Fiesta Henderson (rooms at Fiesta Henderson the Sunday night after Thanksgiving were $17) are two that are closest to Sam Boyd; Also, Sam's Town, Cannery East (pretty new) are not far.

Transportation: I'm a big fan of renting a car because it's so cheap and you're not at the mercy of a shuttle, taxis, etc. If you're staying off-Strip, I'd say even moreso because you aren't dealing with Strip traffic as well.

Still a long ways off but not too early to start thinking about it!!! Looking forward to this one for a while!

EDIT: I wouldn't worry about the temperature, at least not for the game. When the sun goes down, even a 103 seems pretty nice. Yes, during the day it will feel pretty hot. Game time in the stadium will actually be really pleasant.

UNLV might be the worst program in college football. If not the worst than the most underachieving given its location.

Gotta love an excuse to go to Vegas, plus my little brother turns 21 in August and as soon as I mentioned going to Vegas for the game he was on board for a little late b-day celebrating. Should be fun cant wait to see all the maroon and gold out there.

I was looking forward to this game but alas, my wife is expecting next summer and if I head off to Vegas for a football game I might not have a home to return too. :)

105 degree forecast? Can we expect a "dance4rebels" to frequent our board and tell us how this is going to insure a Rebel victory?

105 degrees is nothing compared to what our guys had to endure in Murfreesboro.

Played golf out in Mesquite, Nev 4 years ago, which is about I believe 50 -75 miles from Vegas. Temps were around 100 degrees, but as long as you kept enough water in you and slapped a cold towel on your face a couple of times it was fine. Also drove up too St. George, Utah and played a couple of tracks. Forgot that the county was dry with no beer at the golf courses. Man, I love golfing in the Vegas area. I normally hit the driver 250-260 yds back in "Sota". Out there with the air and the roll I was busting some drives over 300 yds. We booked all of our golf on ezlinks.com and golfnow.com. The two nights we spent in Vegas at the Golden Nugget our rooms were 49.00 a night. Car rental for 6 days averaged about 28.00 a day. The only bad part was the Blackjack table beat me to a pulp. We're going out for the game and hope some of the kids can come. The wife and I are going to make it a 3-4 trip

2 pieces of advice from a LV resident for over 20 years:
#1 Drink plenty of water
#2 Tip the dealers very well
