Maximus mentioned this briefly in the "Other Games" thread from this week but it's worth mentioning again.

After getting torched by Arizona, 58-13, and then falling behind Central Michigan 21-0 in the first half, the Rebels switched to backup SR QB Caleb Herring and he's been on a tear. He went 24-for-28 for 301 yards and 2 TDs (0 INT) in less than three quarters to rally UNLV for a win against Central Michigan.

Since then, he's led them to two other victories, beating Western Illinois 38-7 and beating New Mexico 56-42, breaking the Rebels' 23-game road losing streak. Since taking over in the CMU game, Herring is 62-for-82 for 699 yards, 8 TD's, and 0 INT.

Maybe Hauck wins another couple games and keeps his job, who knows.
 



Thanks Ogee! They have also now won 3 in a row, which they have not done forever. A bye this week, but a beatable Hawaii team comes to town the week after. Four in a row would be huge. There might be a good sized crowd with all the Hawaiians that live in Vegas. An added entertainment value of that game are the fights in the stands. My wife and daughter will not be attending because of that, so a couple buddies will get our extras. Oh, you also bring up the good point about the life that a change of QB's can bring to a team. At some point our coaches should consider that. Go Rebs, Go Gophers!
 



Good for UNLV. If they can hold it together they could win 8 games. Who'd have thought that at the beginning of the season?

Ogee, as I said. I like Hauck. Just out of curiosity, How do you think he would've done at Minnesota?
Now, for you " selective " readers I'm totally satisfied with Coach Kill. Just wondering Ogee's take on it.

Fights in stands? Is this a typical UNLV situation or only when they play Hawaii?

It's definitley not out of the question when they play Nevada, that team from up north. Some kind of north-south hatred going on here in NV that I just don't quite get. Oh well.

Hawaiians? I didn't think you could get them out of The California (casino) long enough to go to a football game. No idea why, but they love that old downtown joint.

I don't know his history enough to know how he would have done at MN. I like Hauck, he's got some passion, no doubt about it; did some great things at Montana. I'm concerned that Hauck has sealed his fate the same way Brewster did; revolving door at the coordinator positions. Brewster could coach, he's no idiot, but you just can't go through that much attrition/change on the coaching staff and be successful. It's impossible. Hauck has done some of that, but if he wins another game or two, he might just make it. The MWC is tougher now that it picked up Fresno St, San Jose State, and Utah State, all somewhat heavy hitters for a conference of that magnitude.

I really hope he does well and makes it at UNLV. It's kind of depressing to have such an irrelevant football team. Sam Boyd is pretty close to my house, it would be fun to go to some good games. I hope to check out one or two this fall.

I'll agree with this. The most fights are when Hawaii and UNR are here. There are a LOT more cops at those games that other ones. The only reason I can think that UNLV and UNR hate one another is that some people think that UNR has a superior attitude. The legislature funds them at a higher rate per student than UNLV, and their faculty make higher salaries or slightly higher salaries. I'm pretty sure that its not rival faculty who are in the fights though. That would be funny to watch.I've heard that some people who go to games at Hawaii have a somewhat harrowing experience. Those fans get fired up.
