I realize it is probably too early to start looking at our next game but with the recruiting dead period and all, I couldn't think of anything better to do. It looks like UNLV HC Bobby Hauck is on the hot seat after another 2-9 season. He fired his OC and DC after one year stints. They brought in four midyear JUCO transfers. I know nothing about these JUCOs but they look very undersized for their positions (bring on the whole electronic vs. hand timed discussion!).

Anyway, it looks like desperation time in the desert. I can't help but think UNLV is the perfect first game opponent. They'll be trying to adjust to new OC and DC for the third time in as many years. Does this sound familiar? Give thanks to having a stable coaching staff! It appears Hauck is turning to JUCOs to save the day and his job which shouldn't be happening at this point in his tenure. Unlike last year's game, I'm thinking we'll comfortably win this game.

Go Gophers!

Hard to say... First game of the season can be a tricky one for any team. You are right that on paper, the gophers should handle unlv. But there are always jitterbugs in that first game of the season.

It creates the same problem we had with them last year with new Coordinators they'll be hard to prepare for.

Yes, UNLV football has both hands firmly pushing the panic button. The papers said that if Hauck does not win at least 6 games he's gone. I doubt that he can win 6, but my wife thinks that the team is built for this coming season. We'll see. I spoke with the former UNLV OC, Brent Myers, last year and he told me that he is good friends with Gopher assistant Bill Miller. They were on Dirk Kutter's (sp) staff at ASU.

It's not to early to talk about the next Gophers football game. With the game at home, I think the game won't be as close as the 2012 game was.

If I recall my glance at the 2013 schedule, this is going to be a Thursday night home opener too, isn't it?

Regardless, we should be capable of handling UNLV by at least 3 TDs next year. We should have won the 2012 game by that much, had MG's accuracy and misses on deep balls not been so poor that game.

I think UNLV was hoping for 6 wins until the Big East blew up. Now Boise and San Diego St. are back in the Mountain West, there is no chance they get to 6 wins next season. I was at a UNLV game in November when they played Wyoming. If not for the Wyoming fans there would not have been 3000 people in the stadium. The UNLV fans want Hauck run out, but he does have some decent talent, just a very poor secondary and no quarterback.

Exactly. We SHOULD have beat the snot out of them. He hits those 2-3 deep balls and we when that game pretty handily.

And yes, it is should be a Thursday night game. It is at least scheduled for Thursday this year.
