With the Gophers trailing by seven late in the first half against Illinois, Stephen Bardo said: "Minnesota is hanging tough." To me, that says a lot about the state of the Gophers program right now. In my opinion, Minnesota should not be relegated to "hanging tough" against a .500 team...AT HOME. "Hanging tough" is for staying within striking distance of a top 10 team on the road, not for sticking with Illinois at the Barn.

Aside from the final two minutes of the first half, I saw a Gopher team that possessed so many concrete weaknesses, it would be futile at this time to try and attempt to dissect each. However, I will say this, it frustrates me to no end to watch Tubby Smith continually go back to players like Maverick, Dawson and even Iverson (though I think it would be difficult to completely bench him despite his horrible play). In my opinion, those three should see no more than 7 minutes each per game...not 15. They should be used only to give the top six a quick breather and nothing more (unless it's a blowout).

I can't recall seeing a player go from good to god awful like Iverson has.

Most teams would be relegated to this kind of play after losing their starting PG (top defender/team leader), their go to scorer, and their 6th man.
