But his work at Minnesota, on the field and off, wasn’t done and his reason for coming back was bigger than himself.

“Coming from where I come from, not too many positives come out of there, so I feel like that’s what makes it my inspiration,” Johnson said. “Not too many people get college degrees, so being able to set that example for other people is something that I can be happy about.”

Johnson is set to graduate with his degree in business and marketing education this year and has already made a splash through the first few games of his senior year, including a three-touchdown performance in a home win – another memorable moment at TCF Bank Stadium – against Georgia Southern.

Go Gophers!!

Hopefully he has a long NFL career but no matter what happens on that front seems like a really good kid with a great head on his shoulders so will probably be successful in one way or another.

He seems to have his head on straight.

I always worry about the guys who come from difficult backgrounds, it's surprisingly hard to succeed as a kid when you grow up surrounded by folks struggling, not a lot of positive influences. Folks who grow up in better environments don't really see how that works but it has a dramatic impact and it takes some really resilient folks with ties to something positive to keep them falling into the same traps others around them do / making similar choices. Hopefully Tyler can serve as a model for others too.

Well said Slab. Tyler's brother is a senior at North this year right? Is he considered a D1 prospect for football or basketball?

Tayler was a db for UNI last year but isn't listed on their roster this year. What I believe to be his Twitter says he is going to Western Neb. to play basketball.

I think it's healthy to see people struggle. It's seeing people give up that harms a kid.
