UND receives $10M pledge for indoor practice facility

Well, we DO have an indoor practice facility for football, and UND didn't.

That said, having some sort of big benefactor is a major deal in college football today.
Oregon wasn't squat until Phil Knight started throwing millions of dollars at the program.
Oklahoma State was basically Iowa State South until T. Boone Pickens decided to open his wallet.

Minnesota doesn't have a billionaire booster right now. It's been mentioned many times that Dick Schulze of Best Buy gave some obscene amount of money to St. Thomas, while the U has been begging hat in hand to replace Siebert Field, not to mention the lack of a basketball practice building.

Yes, this comparison between the U and UND's facilities is wildly off the mark because, as you said, UND is coming from a completely different level of facility woes. That said, you're right that there is a concern that the big money alumni have not stepped up to help Gopher sports. I believe Kaler and Teague will change that and have the track record to indicate it's likely.

I hope this serves as further motivation to help Coach Kill and Coach Smith get their practice facilities. While I'm not a Maturi hater, being behind UND in the arms race doesn't sit well with me.
If you look at is this way, we will always be behind DIII, DII, and DIAA schools. Every school will build new facilities, but that doesn't mean we are behind them. It just means that there new complex is newer. If the poster above me is correct and they do not have an indoor facility besides their stadium I would consider this a much needed facility when the weather conditions of Grand Forks are taken into account. I wouldn't be surprised if their new $10 million dollar complex isn't as nice/big as the Bierman complex.

Well guys this just means you all need to find a way to make a billion dollars really fast and give it to the U. Simple as that.

You're right about some school always building a new facility. My point was more directed at our less than impressive fundraising efforts for what are relatively small projects in the grand scheme of things at the U. It's probably more concerning on the basketball side than football, as that project has been rumored for several years. Anyway, UND's facility will be almost a $20M complex according the article and while it's not entirely for football, it's largely a football related facility and I would guess be at or above the level of the Bierman.

Hey, they can have their fancy practice facility. We got one thing they don't....a legal team name that's not being scrutinized by the NCAA.

Your almost funny. The NCAA is not, repeat NOT, asking/making any name change to the Fighting Sioux.

Hey negative4thstreet, do you know where trolls live? I was making a sarcastic comment about UND. It's always funny that a$$holes like you always need to put their two cents in, when a comment was posted that had nothing to do with you. Lighten up a bit.
