By attending Gophers football practice Saturday, interim athletics director Beth Goetz wanted to quickly return attention to sports and move on from Friday's sudden resignation of her former boss Norwood Teague.

"The priority (Saturday) and every day is about our student-athletes, our coaches and our teams, so that's what our role is and always has been," she said. "That's where we want to keep the focus."

After Butler, Goetz came to Minnesota and soon established a relationship with Kill.

"We have mutual friends, so we have some initial connections sort of coming in," Goetz said. "I think we've really gotten to know each other quite a bit over the last couple of years. I'm excited to work with him a little bit more closely for the coming couple weeks, months -- whatever it might be."

While Goetz will take over atop the department, senior associate athletics director Dan O'Brien will remain responsible for football.

WCCO: Goetz Attends First Gopher Football Practice As Interim Athletic Director

One day after the athletic director for the University of Minnesota resigned, the interim director is stepping in.

Beth Goetz was named interim director of athletics after Norwood Teague resigned, admitting to sexually harassing two university employees.

Goetz attended Saturday’s Gopher football practice. She was the deputy athletic director and a senior administrator in the department. After practice, Gopher coach Jerry Kill expressed confidence in Goetz’s ability to lead the department.

“Beth will do a good job, and I got all the confidence in the world,” Kill said. “We’re gonna move on. We’re not going to miss a beat.”
