Anyone see this? Hawaii's coach went nuts at the refs, then a UC Santa Barbra student ran onto the floor, said a few things at the coach, and was able to run back up to his seats before anything happened.

1. How the hell didn't one of the players go middle linebacker on that idiot? One Hawaii player kinda pushed him out of the way but that was it.

2. Even worse, how the hell was the fan able to run onto the floor, stay on the floor for a few seconds, and then run back to his seat without a single security guard or staff member not intervening?

ESPN interview. Hawaii Coach says "the guy was wasted". Also said If it's OK for a fan to run on court without a technical foul than it should be OK for him to argue with the refs with out on. Jokingly said he should be able to start a fight with the crowd.

Players and coaches should not be in the stands. Fans shouldn't be on the court/field.

Time to surround the court with cages again.

Can't get the image out of my head when that thug came onto the floor for the "Malice in the Palace" incident. Got absolutely laid out by Jermaine O'Neal. Regular people have no concept of how big-fast-strong these athletes are. This moron should be locked in the octagon with whichever Hawaii player would like to go. Why do we, as fans, think we're so big and tough? We're really not.

But we talk like we are.

Looked like the players did exactly what they are supposed to do, they defended the coach and stayed professional, and in return won't face any possible suspensions or discipline. I'd call it textbook

Agreed. Great composure by the players. They made it clear that the idiot wasn't going to get to their coach without going through them, but they didn't do anything to get themselves in trouble. They acted like they should.

Having said that, I wouldn't have minded or advocated for a suspension if one of them had put the guy on his backside. That would have been not at all similar to the Marcus Smart situation (where I was very harsh on Smart), because here the fan crossed the barrier onto the court to go after their coach. I am a firm believer that fans should be protected from players so long as they (a) stay in the fan area and (b) limit their actions to words (as opposed to trying to grab a player or throw something).

Then if it's ok for the coach to go almost to half court to argue with an official then it's ok for a fan to get on the court to get in the coaches face. Well no not really but you get the point. Should have been T's all around after than incident. Jay Bilas would agree.

A coach going after a ref is part of the excitement and intensity of the game. A drunken stupid fan going onto the court is nonsense, and does not belong in scheme.

Man. Now I have to go back and watch that. That was some phenomenal television.

Google "Rob Ray Quebec fan" if you want to see less restraint.

"The guy was wasted and in a different world. It is what it is. You can't control crazies. That's why they're crazy."

I was just surprised the players didn't do more. But you're right, they held their composure. Although, I don't think anyone could fault a player for at least tackling the guy.

More than anything, that was a huge failure in the security. It's hard to stop the guy from getting onto the floor, but for that much time to go by without anyone from the staff/security getting to him is really bad.

I suppose that there would be less security at a mid major game then in the Big Ten.

Security at the level of a game like this is made up of people who want a job but don't want to work.

I was a sniper during the war. Or was it accountant. I can't remember.

I am not a big fan of giving the team a technical foul because of something a fan did. You don't know for a fact who a fan wants to win, they might be just trying to get a technical foul on the team they dislike by tricking you - believe me, I've thought about it.
