per Sid:

Scott Ellison, Gophers associate athletic director for facilities, says the university is going to hire a consultant to study the utilities and traffic implications for the potential new athletics complex.

Reports are the consultant could cost around $80,000. The $190 million fundraising project is ongoing, but this initial consultation also was part of the process when the university built its football stadium.

“We did something similar to this when we built TCF Bank Stadium, where we did the scoping part,” Ellison said. “We had to take a look at all the utilities required and all the utilities that run into the ground there and work on it from there.”

Go Gophers!!

This is way better news than the El Sid debacle article. This is a measurable step forward to design and construction.

...or this is a sign that Sid's information is more accurate than what the University would have us believe. It sounds crazy I know, but I hope things are progressing better than what's being reported.

Here is my take. And just that. The U was upset with Sid about the $90 million leak. And they made it public they were not happy about that. But they also realize that he is a big supporter and probably donates a fair amount, so they said. "Sid, why dont you break news on this smaller tid bit. We will give you an interview and everything" Sid is happy, and the U is getting their information out the way they want.

It should also be noted that a utilities and traffic study can be done in parallel with virtually all design work. Doesn't slow anything else down.

Well, I sure hope they have the traffic study done before December's ground breaking.

It's $90MM just to make sure that the band can march down University Avenue.

And I'm o.k. with that.

I wonder if during the building of The Bank, the traffic consultant was told about how hoards of Minnesotans leave games early.

When they finally open the light rail by the U in the next 5-10 years, there won't be any traffic.

LOL, yeah the lightrail doesn't cause any traffic (said no one ever). I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.. I suspect by your "5-10 years" comment you are. I hope so anyway....

I am looking forward to the Light Rail opening this summer. Our group all comes from the western burbs. And a few have parking permits in the ABC ramps. Our plan is to park there, and then take the light rail to the stadium. Quicker to get our cars out in the morning, and wont have to pay the Sunday fees for keeping it overnight.

I'm also looking forward to the lightrail opening. I live on the line in south minneapolis so it takes driving and parking out of the equation for me. But its also why I KNOW the lightrail will cause more traffic than it relieves around the stadium.

Extremely sarcastic.

We do more in a day than any other place on earth. We leave everything early just to get to our next scheduled event. We are overbooked.
