I wonder if this is one of the ways they plan to get more money to pay players directly, now that they'll be able to do that very soon.

The player payments come from NIL or conference media revenue share, which has a cap. I don't think naming rights monies could be used for that. This would be more for facilities or coaching salaries, or general budget items.
