Kill Released from Hospital

University of Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill was discharged from the hospital today and is now resting at home, according to Gopher football team physician Dr. Pat Smith. Dr. Smith said that Kill was released during the lunch hour Thursday.

“I’m pleased to report that Coach Kill has been discharged from care,” said Dr. Smith. “He is in good spirits and eager to get back to work. He has no restrictions and is free to return to work when he feels up to it.”

Smith was unable to state with certainty when Kill would return to work or whether he would coach at Saturday’s game vs. Miami (Ohio), saying that it would be up to Kill.

Kill suffered a seizure late in the Golden Gophers’ home season opener against New Mexico State at TCF Bank Stadium last Saturday and had been hospitalized since.

The Gophers continue their preparations to take on Miami (Ohio) this afternoon. Thursday practices are closed to the media and public. There is currently no planned media availability for any of the players or coaches, including Coach Kill.

Go Gophers!!

 Wonderful! I've been waiting for that news since Saturday, good to see it finally! Rest up Coach Kill!

Isn't that kind of a long time to be in the hospital for something they portrayed as such a minor thing?

I understood what the doctors were saying to mean that it was routine (i.e. not out of character with his seizure disorder) and that his vitals never changed in a way that worried them (i.e. more serious than any other seizure of this type). What that means for length of hospital stay I do not know. It could be that since this was the first seizure in some time that they wanted to run more tests. Or it could be that they wanted to force him to rest which given his own statements and those of his friends and family would clearly require him to remain in the hospital (as everyone knew he'd be right back to work ASAP). Lots of possibilities.

I think they were also wanting to evaluate his current medication and trying to take steps to ensure this doesn't happen again. I don't think in this case that it was a bad thing for him to be there this long.

But now he's probably chomping at the bit to get back at it, especially considering the loss.

Exactly. A perfect logical possibility. :)

The doctors said that they were adjusting med levels and they understand while he is in the hospital he is theirs and the min they let him go he will most likely go full speed ahead so they wanted to be sure that was ok. Sounded like coach was like a caged animal according to the doctors

it is not only logical. THAT IS IN FACT why they U of M athletics medical staff kept him in the hospital so long. they had control over when they wanted him to leave and wanted to take the opportunity to run multiple tests, reevaluate dosages of medications, etc. heard this on KFAN back on tuesday. he was in the hospital that long on purpose.....not because he had to be for additional health reasons.

thrilled to hear Coach has been released from the hospital with no restrictions, and no major concerns going forward...:)

I would guess this is it. Very common for someone with seizure disorders to go a while with no seizures and then to have one and need medication adjustments.
