University of Minnesota head men's hockey coach Bob Motzko announced that seniors Brody Lamb, Luke Mittelstadt, and Cal Thomas have been named team captains for the 2025-26 campaign.
Entering the 105th season of Golden Gophers hockey, the three captains join a prestigious list of players to serve in a leadership role. The Maroon and Gold earned a league-record seventh Big Ten Conference regular season title a year ago and reached the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight season with a 25-11-4 overall record.
Lamb is back on campus as Minnesota's highest returning scorer following a 2024-25 season where he posted a career-best 17 goals to go with nine assists for 26 points, which ranked sixth on the team. The Byron, Minn., native led the Gophers with eight power-play tallies, sitting in the top 10 nationally, and helped the team to a 15-2-2 record when he registered a point. He has been named a B1G Star of the Week four times in three seasons, while skating in 117 career games.
Mittelstadt provided the Gophers with an offensive boost from the blue line last season, chipping in 18 points on two goals and 16 assists and earned the team's Dr. V. George Nagobads Unsung Hero Award. A product of Eden Prairie, Minn., he put up 13 of those assists in league play and finished with 15 points in 24 B1G contests. Mittelstadt also set a career high behind a plus-23 effort last season and owns a career rating of plus-56 across 116 outings for the Maroon and Gold.
