Tubby Previews Canada Trip

I hope one or more of these will be televised. I was able to catch part of, I think, the first Kentucky game off of channelsurfing.net

Let's hope. I sure would like to watch.

Roster By Class

Class of 2011 - Al Nolen, Blake Hoffarber

Class of 2012 - Trevor Mbakwe, Ralph Sampson, Devoe Joseph, Colt Iverson

Class of 2013 - Rodney Williams, Bryant Allen

Class of 2014 - Austin Hollins, Mo Walker, Elliott Eliason, Maverick Ahanmisi, Chip Armelin, Dominque Dawson, Eric Stark, Chris Halvorsen

That's 2 F, 2 C, and 4 G in the freshman class (Halvorsen is redshirt sophomore).

"Minnesota has eight new faces on its 2010-11 roster, six of which will be making the trip to Vancouver, including guards Maverick Ahanmisi, Austin Hollins and Eric Stark, forwards Trevor Mbakwe and Mo Walker and center Elliott Eliason."

Let's see what really plays out. Some things are off with this quote.

PS - Nice dis of DJ by Tubby.

The writer miscounted. The roster (linked above) shows only 7 newcomers and lists Mbakwe with returning players.

And yes, Damian Johnson was too thin to defend PF who are post players (what Tubby said).

Nice dis of a lot of players but nothing I'd hope those guys didn't already realize.

My wife and I will be there. We'll try to sent you a few of our observations after each game, if there is no other coverage.

Cool, love to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance!

figi, I'm adding my thanks for any posts about the games/activities in Canada. We may have a "live" blog, but your thoughts will be welcomed and provide another perspective.

I wish we could get an interview like this with Tubby more often, don't know if that's on the local media or if Tubby just prefers not to talk too often.

I don't think Tubby dissed anyone in the interview. It was obvious the past two seasons that we did not have a PF on the roster. All Tubby said was that Damian lacked the strength to guard a pure 4 and Colton/Ralph lacked the quickness. I don't think any of the players would be upset by that observation.

I thought the point about the late start to school was interesting. Do the Gophers get more practices on the back end (after the season) because they are in school later than most? If not, it would be nice if we could get some sort of exemption to start individual work a week before school starts.

My suspicion is that the players get to take part in "pick-up" games that are led by uperclassmen. We used to call them "Captains Practices" and the captians would meet with the coaches b4 and after.

i think ralph added some weight too cause that was his weight last year, so may not be updated. add hoffarber at a meaty 210 in the words of mark titus

Right about Hoff - he sometimes plays a big 6'4" underneath and prolly gets more than his share of boards.

Good interview - thanks for posting

I especially liked Tubby's comment ...

"hopefully, we'll be able to take in a lot of the culture, discover - have an open mind - a sense of humor and have a good time.

It reminded me of this item I found on the internets from the New Yorker a few years back.

Canada is like the attic of the USA. Lots of good stuff up there but we forget unless we go up there once in a while.

The 2010-11 summer prospectus. ...

on the web site has the Gophers playing Buffalo on Dec. 4 instead of Cornell, which is incorrect. You'd think they'd be able to get the schedule right.
