This is not verbatim, but it is close:

Tubby on the game...
We weren't able to guard anybody one-on-one, especially our post players. They really beat us up pretty good. We played great defense, 35%. We just didn't make shots. We have to make shots. We can't go 0-4, 0-5, 4-14 from your guards. Rodney was 0-4, Austin was 0-5 and Andre was 4-14 and you aren't going to win any games like that. We work on it every day. We threw it well inside. I thought Andre Ingram gave us good minutes inside. You have to make free throws and you have to make shots. 10 for 20 is mind boggling. We took care of the ball but when you have more turnovers than assists its a problem.

Tubby on Rodney's performance compared to the last Nebraska game...
You watch the games like I do. I thought they were pretty physical. I don't have any reasons, no excuses. I don't think Rodney was engaged from the beginning of the game and that's a problem.

Tubby on shooting...
We knew it was going to be a grind. We were prepared for it. You have to get out and at least act like you are going to guard a guy. I thought Elliot gave us good minutes, 18 minutes, good blocks. It's a disappointing loss. We had a good win against Nebraska at home but they made adjustments. We got out coached, out played.

Tubby on Austin's slump...We've done all we can. He's working hard. He's in the gym, shooting lights out. Something is going on. He's dealt with some migraine's and ever since then he's had a tough time. He's had a different look about him. We'll see what happens. He'll break out of it and we hope sooner than later.

Go Gophers!!

Thanks for that- well done. You would have to be Foster Brooks to get Tubby verbatim. (Older posters will get this)

Was going to say......most on here has never heard of foster brooks. Very funny.

Why did Tubby sit Eliason most of the last 10 minutes???? Outside of getting completely torched when he finally did come in for a massive 3 point play, he played extremely well. And sat on the bench when we were trying to take the lead.

Austin and Coleman should not have touched the floor in the last 10 minutes.

I was wondering the same. Would've rather had him play most of the second half with teh way Rodney was playing. He got screwed on that foul call though--100% ball.

I would have sat Rodney also, i mean can you possibly play 27 minutes and the only thing i remember on offense from Rodney was him taking the long 3 early in the shot clock. What a disappearing act.

Play with no spine on the road

My unprofessional analysis would be a lot less complex. ...

Gophers have become Charmin soft on the road. They're back to the point where they play with no spine in true road games. No grit or toughness whatsoever. That's inexcusable for the number of experienced players and the experienced head coach we have.

Smith: "We took care of the ball but when you have more turnovers than assists its a problem." Good analysis coach. Assists mean good passing. Poor shot percentage comes from poor shots. Poor shots come from attempts made under duress. Shots under duress come from attempts to "create your own shot." Good teams shoot well because they take good shots. They get good shots because they play team ball and pass well.

This is so right. You got guys looking at the box score and saying- well the boys shot poorly. And they sure did. But when you watch the actual game you can see that there is not offensive scheme, no movement and no effort to get your better players in position to shoot good squared up shots. Andre Hollins is a great shooter and they are doing almost nothing to help him get shots. Andre shot a lot of shots under duress, just to get something off. Other teams are now daring Coleman, Rodney, Ingram and Elliason (who actually has been hitting them) and concentrating their efforts on Austin, Andre and Trevor when they are on the floor. Then with the lack of movement, these guys really have no chance. Brilliant move not to start Andre to counteract this- I guess you can't guard him if he's not playing. :)

And when there is movement, there are so many missed opportunities to hit people in motion or in position.

For pete's sake, did anyone ask him post game about not starting his best player? It's stuff like that that's making me seriously question whether the guy is losing it.

I could be wrong, but I feel like the screen and roll on the wing is there every time. Dre got Trevor a dunk once doing it. It worked multiple times against Wisconsin.

The bounce pass between defenders is there every time. The Dre/Trevor-Rodney P&R on the wing is easy points. Wish we'd run it and actually make the pass more often and then teams have to leave Dre open to shoot it to stop the pass.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. We have forwards who are unusually mobile and athletic. We can play to that advantage, but we don't. We play into the strengths of the opponent.

The screen and roll with Dre and Trevor would work almost every time and they are our two best players by far. So we will see it about once a game.

Yeah, except that Trevor is horrible at the high screen. EE is MILES better at the screening part.

On the road Tubby runs the "Flip Saunders Offense". Perimeter players pass the ball around to themselves then stop and try and lob it into Garnett or in this case Trevor. This Half Court Offense is accompanied by a lot of standing around. If they can't get it into him they shoot or drive to the basket and draw the foul. Works well if you've got shooters like Brandon, Cassell, Marbury or Billups even Westbrook or Hoffbarger, out there. Works badly if your shooters are as inept as Jaric, Carter or Avery or Hollins, Coleman, Hollins etc. Can't shoot from the floor, can't shoot from the line, and the Coach can't seem to make an adjustment to fix it.

Confess not knowing if Tubby ran the "Flip" on the road when he was at Tulsa, Georgia or Kentucky. Don't know if Flip even ran that Offense at Detroit or Washington. Just know that Flip relied on it to much here and Tubby's teams have tried to run it since Sampson got here haven't they?

Our screening is pretty bad. When i watch teams like Iowa, CSU, Wisconsin, they screen like you will feel it the next day. Other than EE and Ingram trying we suck at it.

Way to go Tubby! Once again spreading fault while not owning up to any yourself.

Regardless of the shooting problems (good lord I feel bad for the kid) need to keep playing him, for defense alone.
