I saw Tubby and coaches from Gonzaga and Drake at a gym in Edina yesterday watching what I assume was an open gym. There have been posts that they may look at Woodward and/or Lynch...what can coaches do now from a recruiting standpoint?

They can do lots of things, including evaluate a prospective student athlete (jr/sr) at the kid's school during an open gym / pickup session that was scheduled generally (not scheduked for the specific benefit of a coach/es)

Per the 2012-13 NCAA Div 1 Men's BB Recruiting Calendar, Sept 9 thru Nov 11, 2012 is a "Recruiting Period."

13.02.5.3 Recruiting Period—Men’s Basketball.

In men’s basketball, a recruiting period is a period of time when it is permissible for authorized athletics department staff members to make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations. (Adopted: 10/27/11 effective 8/1/12)

Not accurate due to it being incomplete information. There are exceptions for men's basketball.

Well, everything I posted came directly from the recruiting calendar and Div 1 manual posted at ncaa.org. I was 99.8% sure the info was accurate so I went ahead and posted it.:)

Thanks for pointing out that exceptions apply (as they almost inevitably do). I'm sure that if either of us had the time to search for all the possible exceptions we would have done so.

Taking a small excerpt from a 400+ page document doesn't always get you good information, including in this example. (NCAA Bylaws as written can get a bit tricky to follow at times.. not to mention interpretations, etc.)
