Tubby: I still have that fire in my belly. I still have that drive to get things done

Good article. With any coaching hire I think the most important question is "what is possible?".

With Tubby, based on past performance, we can say a national title is possible. Even so, a national title at UK vs a national title at for basketball are quite different proposals. At least we know that with the right support in place it is possible with our current coach. . With Teague and a future practice facility I believe we are closer to the possibility.

Interesting that they already have a relationship, that probably bodes well for Tubby and his situation. Not surprisingly, he's really digging this hire. Hopefully that will translate to some good vibes for this team next season.

Local talent has been down a bit the last couple of years, that looks like it is changing, I hope Tubby can capitalize on it, Gopher basketball could be on an upswing.

"I still have that fire in my belly. I still have that drive to get things done," said Smith, who will turn 61 on June 30. "Like Trevor said, we have a lot of unfinished business that we have to take care of. Nobody was happy with last year or the year before."

Go Gophers!!

Ah yes, don't we all love the golden oldies? The worn out record that's been played
so many times the grooves are nearly worn off the vinyl?

This word does not mean what you think it means.

You are looking for hypocrisy which is not a synonym of irony.

Irony: Outcome contrary to expectations (per your link)

If, based on whathavewedone's posting history, his response was contrary to what one would usually expect ... Wouldn't that be irony then?

And I think it is reasonable to assume that you wouldn't expect a person who continues to do the same routine to knock another person for doing the same routine. Therefore, him knocking Tubby for doing the same routine would be contrary to an expected outcome and in turn, irony.

i think this is a good hire for for the U. Tubby is obviously comfortable with it. With all the talent coming through the next few years Minnesota has a really good opportunity to make a big splash on the college basketball scene the next few years. Tubby is going to put you the U back on the map!!!! I honestly see ncaa tournament the next 3 years, if jones comes it will be 4 in a row.

Fair enough. I was looking at the statement itself and not the situation. I just get tired of people using irony incorrectly. Like when something is coincidental and they call it ironic.

+1

Let's hope Tubby actually gets something done this year, he needs a top 4 Big Ten finish and his first NCAA tournament win at a bare minimum to re-establish himself as a coach for Gopher fans to be excited about.
