This Abbott guy is a joke. Does he know the Gophers beat Turner and the Buckeyes at the Barn? I believe Johnson's trapping at the mid-stripe helped Turner to have a high-turnover game. I think your thread title is misleading - Abbott's thoughts don't rate.
 

As one comment mentioned on the article, Damian eventually fouled out and played less due to fould trouble. Reason two, Damian was needed to guard other players as well. Lastly, Al Nolen (about 6-0) harrassed Evan Turner at the barn, without Al, maybe Tubby thought Devoe or Westbrook could try and do the same by simply being too quick for him.

Plus, it couldnt have been as dumb as the author thinks, yes the end result was a blowout, but it was close for much of the game.

Exactly. Al ran Turner around the court, forcing him to try and get away. and everytime he got away Damian was right there for the trap and steal. But he was "defended" by 6-0 Al Nolen. Unfortunatley, Devoe and Westbrook were not able to do what Al did.
 



Why is it worthless? Whether we agree with the opinion or not, is there no criticism of Tubby allowed on Gopher Hole?
 

Good point made by one commenter on ESPN.com:

"I checked and Damien Johnson fouled out of the game mentioned in the article and which you snipped above and he only played 17 minutes. The Gophers were only down 42-40 at one point, early in the second half. So it's not like Tubby decided that this was a match-up that he wanted to avoid--he was forced into it by foul trouble."
 





Did Tubby really get 'slammed HARD' in the article?

...or was it simply a case of minor contact?
 





I'm not a gopher fan, only come here to keep up with Tubby since I'm a UK Fan. I can tell you that Tubby is certainly one of the best defensive coaches in basketball He could have been an NBA coach about 6 or 7 times, we had rumors about every year he was there. He even interviewed once with Charlotte or Atlanta I believe. Be grateful that MN has such a great coach he's top 10 in college basketball and you might inherit Saul when it's all said and done, who is one hell of a coach in the making himself.

Agree on all points. Saul is top-notch too.
 

I'm not much for critical chatter but notagopherfan and MinneMike think more like me than many in this forum. Tubby is a very fine coach and Minn is very fortunate to have him. I'm always concerned that he'll pull a Lou Holtz and bolt.

Not respecting his judgement and abilities does not assist in his retention. Quit with the grousing and enjoy the successes he brings to the school. Not having a BB practice facility yet is probably the thing that makes Tubby's job more difficult than the constant questioning of his actions.

Why is everyone such a pussy on this forum. I said in my post that I think Tubby is the best thing to happen to this program basically ever. BUT what he hangs his hat on is his defensive genius, and then I pointed out this link that I found during the Simmons and ford's nba chat where it shows tubby making a very dumb defensive move. I thought it was interesting to show, that is all. I assume most of you have kids, does it mean that you hate them and they are worthless when you criticize them? Of course not. Tubby doesn't read this forum, so criticizing him isn't going to get him to leave.
 

This thread title sounds like it would qualify as the worst porno ever made.

Tubby is a good defensive coach but genius is a stretch. The author of the ESPN link has no clue.
 

Screw it all. I am gonna drink beer and enjoy life as I wait for the College Sporting Season to begin. In the meantime, sports fans, stay away from tornadoes. :)
