This is not the first time Coach Smith has called a player out in the media. He did it last year to Westbrook and Johnson. When Mac, Coleman, and Spence was there he did the same thing. Why is everyone so upset with him because he called out Blake. Blake is just like any other player, he can be criticized. Tubby has always praise Blake when he was critical of his other players. I recall the year Blake made the last minute shot in the Indiana game, he gave Blake all the credit for that game and never said one word about what the others did. I really don't believe Tubby would ever give Blake negative criticism, he just got caught up in the moment out of frustration with the lost.

It's amazing to read about all the GH'ers who are calling out Tubby for calling out a team that needs to be called out!

There isn't a player on this squad who can't and must play better for them to make a run to the NCAA's. And down deep the players know it.

Notice all of the references you made were to when coach would rip the seniors. Since he can't rip Al because he's injured... his only option is Blake as a senior. I have no problem with who and how he ripped. Notice he doesn't savage Chip, Austin or Mav... I just don't think he'd do that. I do believe this is as much a motivational strategy as it was frustration.

To be clear, I have no problem with him "calling out" Blake. But I found the timing and the point to be utterly ridiculous. I think pretty much every shot he took Thursday was a good shot and should have been expected. Also, he had made three 3's before missing the last few, so it wasn't like he was missing all night and continued to bomb away. IMO, he should be bombing away even more, hot or not. It is our best offense.

I think my problem

with calling out Blake was not that there arent times to call out players but I fear now Blake will be more hesitant to shoot and he is about our only hope of anyone making a three. I think it will hurt the team and not help. Hollins has some three point ability but lacks a little confidence I would guess. Blake needs the coach behind him when he attempts the three--he gets so few---and team makes so few. Blake needs to take chances or we may never have a three.
