The hiring of Tubby, Brewster, McHale, Holtz and Wacker were all "un-for-seen" by the local media. You can probably throw in the firing of Flip and the rehiring of Bud Grant, though a phone call to Saturday Sports Talk by George Chapple about said hiring created Dark Star. You might even be able to throw in the hiring of Lucia and or Richards . I don't follow hockey very much. I will tell you after the surprise move of the North Stars to Dallas Roger Staubach said he had been talking to Green about the move for weeks before it happened!

Heck, Mason said he would have gotten the Minnesota job before Wacker if it didn't require a public interview and the local press didn't get that story until years later.

The point isn't that the local guys do a lousy job at getting the information well in advance of the hiring, that might be the case everywhere. The point is that betting on them getting any advance speculation correct is a long-shot bet at best. It might even be a sucker bet.

You gotta love the internet and twitter for accomplishing one thing, any goofball with a computer or twitter feed can just make something up and in a few hours people are debating or reporting it!

Doogie and/or Schmit did one extremely bright thing here, by posting thirty possible candidates their chances of saying "see, we TOLD you so" have been greatly increased!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I've been harping about the same thing for weeks. Funny how these guys have "sources" that can know so much about part of the search, but so little about all of it. For example, how can you know who is in the top 3-5 or who is and who isn't interested, yet you don't know who the one candidate is that Maturi said no one is talking about. Either your sources are really in the know or they are not - at least it seems to me.

It's fun stuff to read and all we have right now is wild speculation, but some guys repeat what they read as fact when most of it is second hand rumors at best.

The head shaker is that after the announcement nobody will mention all the things they got wrong only that "we got him!"

It's to bad Pat Kessler doesn't do fact check segment on sports speculation.:)
