Tough to remember a good result on a big possession after Tubby takes a time out to draw something up. Can anyone recall one?

BT tourney vs indiana and several others - also several that didnt go well.

Devoe bricked a wide open, perfectly drawn up 8 footer last year against Purdue. Oh, and there was "The shot"

Did anyone actually think we'd get a shot off? Of course they'll be switching on screens to stay with Blake, but apparently that was the only option.

Not a fan of Tubby's offense here, but we had a beauty with about 5 minutes to play. They broke into a waeve, hoff into the lane and the alley oop to Mbakwe. It was pretty and right out of the time out.

Earlier in the game, they ran a play for Hoff were he hit the 15 footer.

Does Lindsey Whalen have any eligibility left?

Coaches can only design a play, they can't execute them. Doesn't matter the coach or the sport. In basketball, that's why you need a great point guard to come up with plan B on the fly if plan A doesn't work. Unfortunately for us, we just plain ran out of time and our point guard can't really shoot.

Hoffarber has to get open on that play. Yea they switched, so now he has lauderdale on him. How about get open and take Dallas 1-on-1 to get the easiest look off the dribble he would have gotten all night. When you get around the screen and you are still fronted, be a senior leader, get the ball from Nolen and take the 7 footer 1-on-1 on the perimeter.

It is essentially the same thing that was happening against Wisconsin where Sampson kept having to cover Jordan Taylor.
Make a play. That was disappointing.

But we needed a three, not a two. All Lauderdale had to do was stand out there, he is huge. Nolen or Blake shooting a pull up 25 footer with a 7 footer in their face wouldn't have worked either.

They are normally really good out of a timeout actually, that was frustrating.

Disagree. There were, what, 16 seconds left? Al had driven to the basket 2 straight times with success (though he missed one of the shots) and they had gone 1-2 on the last 2 trips to the line. I was hoping they would have Al drive the ball directly down the lane again - which was quite unguarded - hopefully make the bucket, maybe get an And-1 or have Mbakwe or Sampson put it back. Then we could foul and have a chance to tie with a 2 or 3 and maybe win with a 3.

The 3 guys guarding Blake would be out-of-the-play.

I didn't like the play at all...not just because it didn't work, but because we had no secondary option. Hoffarber had to recognize that and not give the ball up against Lauderdale unless they double him.

Blake has to realize that they will switch and come off that screen deeper and take a deeper three...he was right on the line. If he comes off that screen 4 feet further away...Lauderdale can't prevent the shot...tough but makeable.

Not enough time for two possessions at that point. We actually went for two at the beginning of the possession and missed two lay-ups. With 15 seconds left the odds weren't great we would get the ball back, even if we could hit a quick two.

How long does it take to foul? 12 seconds?

He could have gotten a good look at 3 if he had gotten the ball with Lauderdale on him. He isn't exactly a matchup defender. The knock on Hoff has always been inability to create his own shot, he gets matched up on the slowest defender in the game. Instead of seeing the switch and quitting, go get the ball and take a dribble or two around the slowest Ohio State player to get a good (not great) look at the 3.

Instead he stood behind the switch, took himself out of the play and left the team in a bind. They ended up having a freshman taking a fadeaway 3 with a hand on his hand.

At least 4 or 5 seconds to score brings you down to 10 seconds. 3 or 4 seconds to foul brings you down to 6 or so seconds. If OSU misses the free throw, that eats up another second or two, so now you are down to about 4 seconds off a broken play. If they make the free throws, then you still need a 3, but you are at the opposite end of the court with only 6 seconds left.

They did the right thing going for 3. Unfortunately they didn't get a good look.

3 or 4 seconds to foul??? Wow. you can foul in less than one second without a problem. IMO, they had enough time to go for two if they could have scored in 4-5 seconds (as you said).

I don't think it's a no brainer that they should have gone for 2, but I definitely think it was an option and a more attractive one because:

1. The entire arena knew we would probably try to get it to Blake for a 3. Smartly, Thad put 2 guys on him the entire time.

2. On the previous 2 trips up the floor - and the current trip, Al had successfully driven the lane.

Would have liked to see Blake do a pump fake there. Get the defender in the air and either jump into them for the foul or sidestep for a more open three.

If a team needs a three pointer and they have 1 3pt shooter name me a play that will get them open. Also all the perimeter players for Ohio St. are taller and quicker, except Craft he's about 6'1" but quick and strong.

Should have called the Statue of Liberty play.
