For a coach who supposedly emphasizes defense; that first half was garbage coaching. Obviously we couldn't handle them one on one; how a about mixing in a zone? Embarrassing.

If we were to throw in a zone osu would knock down threes on us all day... maybe something like a match up zone would help... I don't think the gophers have an answer for anything in this game...plus turner is just dominating all around...we worry too much about stopping him, and we still can't shut him down...he's the x factor obviously...he makes everyone on his team better, and that's y they put up 50 on us...wouldn't be suprised to see this level of play continue from osu. Gophs need to get back into pressing and creating turnovers... I remember a game last year in madison where the gophers faced this kind of deficit and stepped up the D in the second half and won it in OT...hoping for the same outcome here...but it's highly unlikely.

Re: Knocking down threes

Aren't they doing that already? How can it get any worse than giving up 49 in a half? At least a zone would preven Turner from walking into the lane for a 8' jumper.

This is a simple case of the guys being plain lazy. There isn't a defensive system out there that could help these guys with the level of effort they're displaying today. They effectively established they weren't going to play defense within 10 minutes of the opening tip.

Just forget about this game and move on...nothing is working...they make every shot(75 percent from the field) it's been over since tip off.

To mention Tubby Smith and Great Defense in the same breath is the worlds greatest oxymoron.

Did you watch the game? They absolutely mixed in zone in the 1st half. In fact they mixed in two different zones - a 1-2-2 half court zone and got burned; and then switched to a 2-3 zone and got whipped. At least if you're going to criticize them on something be sure you are accurate. They played terrible - no doubt - so go ahead and criticize that, but they played zone in the first half and it didn't work, either. So, don't criticize that.

Sure Les is wrong ... but he was a "helluva golfer." (A reference only old-time GHers will appreciate)

tj- How could you tell? It didn't look like they were playing any set type of defense to me. I thought it was the "run like a chicken with your head cut off defense" personally. No defense works if you aren't hustling.
