For all the up in arms either way crowd, let just chill and talk some football.
I seems like Gray was finally mixed in for longer periods of time against OSU.
He ran zone read option, spread option, wildcat, and some rollout pass/run options.
For all the detraction of Weber, he did make some better throws this week, and does seem to be getting comfortable throwing certain passes in this O.

If we can continue to develop this mix of Gray's athleticism and Weber's experience we might finally see the offense most of us expected out of the gates.
One that I'd like to see would be the Gray/Weber read option, we've seen the handoff in the past to Weber who throws it, but if Gray can read the DE and either hand it off or keep it for a run, that would be a good play to mix in here and there. I'd also like more of the Stoudermire end arounds mixed in early to see if a fake end around dive play could loosen up the linebackers.
We're gonna be fine for Saturday night, the playmakers are starting to emerge little by little.

I think most of us agree with your post!

However, many of us thought this should have happened weeks ago. Perhaps Gray's play could have made the difference against WI, for example.

It appeared that Gray was only inserted against OSU because we "had nothing to lose"; that may or may not be the case, but he is a super talent and needs to get his reps NOW and accelerate his development.

As was mentioned here before, we do not have the luxury of "developing" talent...that is years off! We must do all we can NOW to be competitive and win games. If not, Brew and his crew will be but a distant memory.

We are not a winning team, nor have we been competitive in recent weeks. So, I ask, isn't NOW the time!!??

As Brew says, "the TIME is NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Many have pointed out that they wanted this weeks ago. Many expected this type of Qb mix week 1.
Reality is that now Gray is starting to "get it", he's gaining confidence, they've put him in positions where he can play, but not have unrealistic responsibilities for a freshmen. This will bode well for the program going forward.

Quite true. It may also explain Brewster's QB comments. Not throwing Weber under the bus seems a rather prudent decision. It's hard to believe that recruits, even those that think Gray should start, would be real happy seeing and hearing Brewster ripping his QB.

By saying that we're going to see both QBs play it sets things up rather well. If Weber starts, plays well and the Gophers win most fans would be happy. If Weber doesn't start off playing well Brewster can go to Gary earlier and if he does well stay with him. He then shows he stands behind his players but allows kids to "play themselves into" a starting spot.

I can't get past thinking that after Brewster decided he wanted more of a Pro Style Offense, they were planning on Weber playing well enough to go into the NFL draft. That would explain changing his throwing style to one that could work in the Pros. Weber is graduating anyway. If he could have gotten into the NFL Draft next year, again something that didn't seem so outlandish last summer, it would have been something to crow about to recruits. It would also open up a spot next year for Gray.

Much like Zook and Tressel, Brewster had to believe that a QB that looked quite good early in his career would continue to improve. So far all three guys have to be disappointed.

Any college coach that would consider throwing a kid under the bus doesn't deserve to be a coach.
That said, Anyone consider that Weber is taking the full brunt of criticism, injuries, tough playbook digestion, expectations, and team leadership with alot of class? Gray is learning at his own pace because he can. Every interview he does he speaks highly of his captain. They will both play and we will find out what each can contribute to the O, when the other is playing well.
