Man, this is an emotional day for me as a gopher fan!

It seems like just last year we were watching the freshman Rodney! The one who looked like a 16 year old and whos shot was crazy wild. (and still is) Time passes so quickly! Rodney still has holes in his game, and could make his presence known more, but he's improved a ton while at the U and his potential is still very much intriguing even as a senior. Thanks Rodney for supplying us with some amazing dunks. Not to mention his crazy blocked shots! We will never see something of that nature again at MN.

Play I'll remember him for: You're THUNDEROUS put back dunk off the rebound of Hoffarber's missed three in late in the game in the Semi-Final win in against #8 North Carolina in the Puerto Rico tournament.

Trevor Mbakwe. The last player from Kevin Love's class to remain in college basketball. Ahhhhhhh, yes! When I first heard he was transferring here, I couldn't pronounce his last name, but I was pumped because I heard he was an animal! His legacy will be an undersized big, who was so physically and emotionally tough that nothing could stop him! He ended up spending 4 years here at the U of M. He has a legendary scream and chest pounding after a big dunk and he is another awesome shot blocker. He battled back from an ACL and we are counting on him to lead us deep into the tournament. He won't go out silently! Thanks Trev!

Play I'll remember him for: Honestly, that MONSTER block on Zeller will never be forgotten. That's probably the best Ive seen yet, and it happened to be just last game.

Andre Ingram is someone I couldnt figure out until the NIT last season when he played a big role on our team. He's a guy who's very athletic, pretty strong, and is known for his shot blocking, defense and rebounding! His offense is a non-factor, but he can finish at the rim if need be. I really enjoyed the spark he plays with in limited minutes of the bench. Thank you Andre for transferring here and spending 2 quality years at the U of M! Hopefully you'll soon get to say you played in an NCAA tournament game.

Play (moment) I'll remember him by: His emergence as a big shot blocker and finisher in a key role in the NIT run last year and his banked jump shot at Indiana late in the game this year.

Julian Welch is someone unfortunately that I never was able to figure out here during his time at the U. He was an efficient shooter (perimeter and mid range) during his junior season here, and was basically a nice undersized shooting guard. Its pretty sad to see what's happened to him this season as he really hasn't been a factor in this team's success this year. I still think he could've been capable of leading the team in little spurts if he was used right. (not necessarily blaming any coaches) He was the Pacific conference freshman of the year which is pretty cool and is an excellent student in the classroom. Thanks Julian for transferring here for 2 years at the U.

Play I'll remember him by: the 2nd round of the big ten tournament last year when he hit a huge 3 that put us up by 10 with like 4 minutes left in the game against 2 seed Michigan.

Thanks everyone for choosing Minnesota, and good luck going forward in the future!

Well said, Game Day. Best ahead for the Seniors, and thanks for any and all contributions to Golden Gopher Basketball.

For me, Williams block at the end of Indiana game is a play I will remember Rodney for. That was amazing.

That one and I'll also remember Trevor's smothering block of God Zeller early in the game.

Years from now I will always remember Rodney and Trevor, one great dunker and one great rebounder, and especially Trevor, the way he always wears his emotion on his face. Two very special young men.

Well put. Rodney's dunks will be talked about for decades, and we were in the Barn to see it. He gave us four years of highlights, head-shakers, and unfulfilled potential (many would argue). He also put in four years without drama, legal trouble or other things we've seen so much of. Tip of the hat, Mr. Williams....

seniors

i just figured i would post an article on how happy i am for the seniors and how much i appreciate them as a gopher fan. I would especially like to thank the minnesota kids who decided to become part of this program and represent their home i dont think they realize how much it means to us as fans that they play here. i wish all of them success in the future and i wish rod and trevor the best playing pro ball they mean a lot to the program going forward.

The one dunk I will remember Rodney for is the one just before that half in today's game against Penn State.

I can't say any dunk was more special then another. They all had a common denominator, unbelievable height and and hang time, and perhaps the hang time the most impressive. Compared to others he defies gravity, but I should quit talking of him like he is gone, with any luck we see his basketball days continue.

Great game from all four. Glad to see them go out on a high-note in terms of home games. Hope they manage to delay then end of their collegiate careers for as long as possible this March and (hopefully) April.

With Rodney, it's not the dunks that I'll remember, it's the blocked shot of Oladipo near the end of the IU game. With Trevor, I'll remember his primoridal scream.

It happens every year. The season starts out as this thick stack of tickets, and before you know it the stack is down to one last ticket, and the seniors are stepping onto the floor of Williams arena for the last time in a golden uniform. It's the joy and the sorrow of college athletics - the quickness with which the players come and go, echoing each of our own college careers. We go to college with the idea of completing the job there. It seems to last so long, but the final day comes fast and goes in an instant. At the end of that day, we all find ourselves in the same community of alumni, all with the same common condition -that of having our college days in the rear view mirror. Where was I? Oh, yeah: farewell, seniors.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

I have some great memories of these guys and really can't believe how quick their time as a Gopher has gone by, but hopefully the thing I will remember this Senior class for has yet to happen and will hapen in the middle of March and maybe early April.

I was just about to say, hopefully the best memories that have been made ARE YET TO COME!
Can't friggin wait for the Big Ten and NCAA tournament!

It is amazing how fast the years fly by, and the older one gets the faster they seem to go. There is truly a mathematical explanation for "time flies". Here is that scientific, mathematical explanation:

When one is 20, a year is 1/20 of your life.
When one is 40, a year is 1/40 of your life.

Now, 1/40 is 1/2 of 1/20, so the fact that it is only 1/40 goes by twice as fast to be equivalent, meaning 2/40 then = 1/20.

So, getting older is kind of like using a roll of toilet paper...the closer to the end one gets the faster it goes around.

Teared up reading this. Trevor and Rodney are two players I will never forget. Trevor's heart and toughness give me chills and he always knew how to get that old barn rockin and rollin. That Indiana game was the loudest that place has been in a long time. I also agree that we will never witness anything like Rodney again and he molded into a pretty good ball player. Like you said Trev and Rodney won't go out easy, why can't we have a magical run?

Good god some of you sound like they are your kids going off to war or something. They are seniors on a basketball team...

I hope that I am never as dull or jaded as you.

What is the emotional attraction to sports and athletes like Rodney and Trevor? For me, it is to see something special or see something seemingly unbelievable that you never expected to see. Rodney gives that to us with his dunking ability, and Trevor with his rebounding intensity. Watching those two play, realizing how it isn't just that 20 minutes or 40 minutes of basketball that we witness those two play, but what happens in those 20 or 40 minutes. The special athletic play that those two give us reminds us of a special place to be, if only for a moment.

My wife and I still have the senior-day program from 1990 entitled "Farewell Seniors," with a picture of Burton, Newbern, Coffey, Shikenjanski and Lewis on the cover with their hands gathered in the middle. Still gives me the chills to look at it, especially knowing they were eventually bound for New Orleans and the regional final.

Obviously a bad childhood with no fond memories to help carry happiness thru life. I feel sorry for you.
