Rodney's got no one to blame but himself. He doesn't have the heart of a champion (or even a winner).

He is really killing his draft stock, sure he has a great block or dunk every once in a while but he just disappears for 90% of the game. I know he was moved to the 3 but he still could have tried to get to the hoop more, hanging out on the perimeter all night makes him about as effective as myself. I really hope he gets it together in the coming tourneys, not only for the team but for his future, Id love to see two Gophers drafted this year.

Like we used to tell our youth basketball players (mainly forwards and centers), you can create a heck-of-a lot of offense for yourself by just being tough, boxing out, going inside and rebounding and getting put-back baskets. It just is so frustrating watching Rodney stand around and do nothing.

Not surprising - Rodney was never the player we hoped for. All Hopps no Shots.

ouch even Ralph got invited didn't he?

I do believe he did...he was one of the softest basketball players I have ever seen (major d1 anyways). Heck, even Jonte Flowers from fricken Winona State received an invite to Portsmouth. Not the highly prestigious pre draft camp like it used to be.

I'd rather have Jonte right now...

per Sid:

Former Gophers forward Trevor Mbakwe pulled out of the Portsmouth Invitational tournament but continues to train in Atlanta as he gets ready for the NBA draft. Most analysts have Mbakwe as a potential second-round pick, along with teammate Rodney Williams. Chad Ford, writing on ESPN.com, said, “Mbakwe and Williams both look like pros. Mbakwe will never be a star, but his toughness should get him a spot somewhere in the league.”

'stand around and do nothing'??? nothing? hope some of your other 277 post have a glimmer of hoops knowledge.

what of gopher hockey? just like rodney, peaked before xmas... then decided a pro future was not worth risking against lesser teams/talent..
for rodney, 4 years of tubby ball and big10 elbows and undercuts by hacks like 'bruiser' from wisky and anyone would have cruised down the stretch.

so tubby had his '4' hang 'out on the perimeter all night'.. must be why he was canned.

DID ANYONE ON THIS THREAD EVEN WATCH 1 MINUTE OF BB THIS YEAR?

he played the 4 in the big10 at 195 lbs and he was 'soft'?
better luck on post #196...
wow.. just wow.

This post was referring to Ralph Sampson III, not Rodney.

dboy comes roaring in with the rarely seen, but always comical, quintuple post. Well done little guy

I was referring to Ralph Sampson not Rodney Williams. Please read before you jump to conclusions, thank you!

It's too bad Rodney didn't get to play for Pitino. He could've been a beast in transition and on backdoor cuts. It's unfortunate they were prohibited in Tubby's "running" offense.

What??? I seem to recall all kinds of posts here about how both of them would be 1st round picks!!!

Tweet from Jeff Goodman.

Doesn't the NBA know that Michael Snaer can't be guarded?

Man, dboy had a bit of a meltdown there. I agree, though. Rodney had some skill, we just wanted more from him. A lot of fans perceived him as being much more passive than he should have been with his athleticism. It could have been the coach, or it could have been Rodney, who knows.

NBA teams gave feedback based on the list and 3 guys were added to the combine (not Rodney though). Marquette's Vander Blue and a guy the Gophers faced last season that I really like - Robert Covington - were added.
