Trestman's resume scares me because, once again, no college HC experience. I hate to gamble like that when there are other more proven names available. We need someone we know can perform CPR on this program and get it at least back on its knees. I don't know if the recognition is as widespread as it needs to be that this program is rivaling Washington State for pure fail. The fallout from this season hasn't yet manifested itself. It's going to take years to recover from where we are and it's not going to happen without a lot of hard and competent work under the leadership of someone who knows what he's doing because he's done it before. Trestman is not that guy.
With as many years as he has under his belt, there has to be a reason he's coaching in the CFL. He has pinballed around from QB coach to OC to QB coach to OC. It frankly smells funny. And the CFL is not even football, it's some kind of football-like bastardization. The entire league has 8 teams in it, so he has shown that he can amass a better record than 7 of them, twice. (6-11 this season.) None of which are exactly led by Tom Landry either. Way to go. All of this would be great if we played in the CFL, but can he build up a major Division 1A program from rock bottom? Can he recruit? Can he galvanize public support? Can he attract & keep a quality, Big Ten caliber staff? Who knows, maybe, but he has not exactly been getting much practice at these things where he's been at. Do we want to hire a maybe? Do we wanna have Joel Maturi look him in the eye and go on his gut feeling again?
All the best to a U alum but I want Marc Trestman nowhere near our head coach position.
