If Mark Trestman was not from St Louis Park would he even be mentioned as a candidate for our job?
Is anybody else even interested in him for their opening? I think if the answer to that question is no, then he should not be a candidate.
FBT does a great job of explaining why not to hire Trestman in his post from yesterday.

You are right, but for the wrong reasons I think (I hope thats not hard to understand)

He is a good coach, with lots of experience. Yes he is getting a lot of play because he is a MN native and a U alum, but that could mean this is a dream job.

If it were a dream job I would assume he would work extra hard, be excited and happy with what he was doing, and have no desire to leave for a bigger and better job.

There is an extremely high profile group of prominent alumni who are absolutely rabid to get Trestman hired. Not sure I get the fervor but I have been convinced he would be a good choice if that is what is decided. I am keeping an open mind and hope to see some very big names that would give Minnesota instant credibility (a la Tubby) in addition to being a great X's and O's guy (like Trestman.)

I'm guessing he'd be the most loyal of Coaching Candidates next to Leslie Frazier...

How do we know he is a good X's and O's guy? Is it the fact he has never been able to hold a job longer than 3 years in his entire career? Or is it the fact that he never had a ton of success until he left for 12 man football (that has completely different Xs and Os)

I'm not a cheerleader for Trestman, though I think there are far worse choices.

That said, a big reason for his job hopping appears to be that he's worked for some head coaches that didn't last too long in their jobs, resulting in the whole staff getting the axe.

If you look at the stats of some of the offenses he's coached, particularly the QB's, he's certainly above average.

He's not my first choice, but I wouldn't be terribly upset if he got the job.

Trestman's resume scares me because, once again, no college HC experience. I hate to gamble like that when there are other more proven names available. We need someone we know can perform CPR on this program and get it at least back on its knees. I don't know if the recognition is as widespread as it needs to be that this program is rivaling Washington State for pure fail. The fallout from this season hasn't yet manifested itself. It's going to take years to recover from where we are and it's not going to happen without a lot of hard and competent work under the leadership of someone who knows what he's doing because he's done it before. Trestman is not that guy.

With as many years as he has under his belt, there has to be a reason he's coaching in the CFL. He has pinballed around from QB coach to OC to QB coach to OC. It frankly smells funny. And the CFL is not even football, it's some kind of football-like bastardization. The entire league has 8 teams in it, so he has shown that he can amass a better record than 7 of them, twice. (6-11 this season.) None of which are exactly led by Tom Landry either. Way to go. All of this would be great if we played in the CFL, but can he build up a major Division 1A program from rock bottom? Can he recruit? Can he galvanize public support? Can he attract & keep a quality, Big Ten caliber staff? Who knows, maybe, but he has not exactly been getting much practice at these things where he's been at. Do we want to hire a maybe? Do we wanna have Joel Maturi look him in the eye and go on his gut feeling again?

All the best to a U alum but I want Marc Trestman nowhere near our head coach position.

There have been about 8 threads about why Trestman shouldn't be hired. Please can we just be done discussing him?

I will be done telling people why he shouldn't be hired when people are done making threads about why he should be hired.

Why are these nightmare scenarios even being given media coverage? McCarney, Trestman, Fulmer, anyone on Wisconsin's staff

Because no one in the Twin Cities media knows enough about college football to suggest a realistic college coaching candidate not named mike leach?

How long before they mention us hiring Bob Ligashesky?

Heh, I did. I have too much time on my hands at work sometimes. Some guy started yelling at me about my sig via PM so I made that to irritate him.
