per Haney:

Former LSU coach Les Miles and Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck remain the focal points of Purdue’s ongoing coaching search, multiple industry sources have told 247Sports in recent days.

Miles, one source says, is telling potential employers including Purdue that he intends to bring current Alabama offensive analysts Steve Sarkisian and Mike Locksley to serve on his offensive staff. One source told 247Sports that under Miles' sales pitch, Sarkisian, the former USC head coach, would serve as Miles’ principal play-caller while Locksley, the former New Mexico head coach, would likely serve as a run-game coordinator.

Sarkisian coached QBs at USC from 2005 through 2008, working as the offensive coordinator the final two seasons of that span. He was head coach for five seasons at Washington, then jumped back to USC, which fired him in the fall of 2015. He joined Nick Saban's staff in September; many saw that move as insurance for Saban should current OC Lane Kiffin leave for a head coaching job after this season. Kiffin and Sarkisian coached together at USC.

The 63-year-old Miles has been criticized for not adapting offensively, something that directly led to his dismissal at LSU despite a 114-34 record and the 2007 national title. Since being fired, Miles has told several reporters that he is aggressively seeking people to help him advance his offense. However, a source told 247Sports on Thursday that some administrators are still skeptical that Miles will be able to relinquish full control of the offense.

Go Gophers!!

Cutty Sark around boilermakers is a very bad idea.

I still think that Miles to Purdue is out of reach for the Boilermakers. I could however see Charlie Strong as a viable candidate there.

no reason for any of the names mentioned so far to goto purdue - its a total dead end job

As a P5 School, I want my program to be a dead end job. Either we fire them or they are here until they retire.

Joe Tiller was a great coach. Won a lot of games by being way ahead of the curve.

His success depended largely on being the old spread team on the B10 conference schedule.

If Coyle has donors and kaler signed off on Les Miles.....so long Claeys.

This could be a big get if it ever happens and I doubt it will.
Miles is a good coach (did win a national title) and if he learned to keep his hands off the offense it could work.
Sark is a great OC and if I am Purdue I take the chance. What do they have to lose? More football games.
Mike Locksley would be a great get to. He was the recruiting muscle behind Illinois' best class ever and that group got to a Rose Bowl.

we're light years from the joe tiller days in college football - game has completely changed

In what ways has it changed that would make Purdue more difficult to turn around than it was pre-Tiller?

The game always changes.

IF

If Les Miles takes the Purdue job...especially if he accepts in the next couple weeks, they will become a Top 25 team within two years. He'll flip some recruits in December and January.

If we changed coaches, I wouldn't want Les Miles. His days are over imo. He wouldn't even be in my top 10. 10-8 in his last 18 SEC games. Who wants a coach that has been trending down for 3 years at a school like LSU? Plus who's 63 years old.

I would take Fleck over Miles all day everyday.

In all honesty....id say no way. Claeys does more with less and Les does less with more..
(get all that?)

If we hired Miles, we would be back to the Mason drama with him sniffing around Michigan each offseason as the odds of Harbaugh getting a mega NFL payday are high.

Two people who aren't going to be there.... not sure they're making demands.

And for Sark... I wonder what his contract would look like.

If Fleck or Miles want to come to Minnesota. They better figure out how to make them the HC at Minnesota

TC has been alright, but the Gophers are what they are under him. This is a Cubs Maddon/Renteria situation here. Renteria had a fine year team improved quite a bit under him, but when a guy that can take you to the next level becomes available you try your hardest to go get him.

The Minnesota job is much better than Purdue. I would think they can pay more as well, plus with the new facilities almost here recruiting should be ready to take a leap ahead

Fleck would be assistant head coach in charge of rowing boats / motivation.

Miles would be assistant head coach in charge of being kinda creepy / recruiting.

Not a chance. They are terrible. I don't care how good he is, you can't make chicken salad out of chicken ****.

Really doubt JH is getting enough of a "mega payday" to extract him from the 10 mil he makes at Michigan. No NFL coach makes more than 7.5 to my knowledge.

No they won't.

Posts like this are evidence that the anti-Claeys crowd want him gone regardless.

It was completely illogical for people to suggest that Claeys could have gotten fired after winning 7 games. People would say things like "well, if they lose out, he'll be gone".

Now that he beat NWestern, the tune has changed.

We get it. You don't want Claeys.
