good morning Gophers,

I'm going to visit my sister this weekend in St. Paul and figured it was about time I knocked TCF Bank Stadium off my list of college football stadiums... in hopes of one day visiting all of them.

I'm excited about the game and to see how Ohio St. reacts when traveling to this frigid area

I have a question, I've looked at Stubhub and was wondering if I should hold out in hopes of just picking a ticket up from a scalper on Saturday, or does anyone on here have a ticket they'd like to sell me.

I'll be dropped off at the game, so I am not worried about parking

as a rabid North Texas fan, it will be a change of pace to see two top level Big Ten schools going at it

Thanks in advance for any help.

meangrean guy,
An early welcome to you! You should be in a for a real treat. Great football weather and a team on the rise trying to show what they have against the best team in the conference. mygophersports.com has tickets for sale for $50 right now. They are not the best tickets, but there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Alternatively, you could pick up a ticket the day of in front of the stadium.

good morning Gophers,

That won't be the biggest change of pace. Make sure you either bring, borrow, or buy some extra clothing. If it were me, I'd probably just stop at a cheapie thrift/consignment store or a Ragstock if I didn't bring Minnesota clothes and stash them at your sister's after you leave. Saturday is supposed to have a high of 28 and a low of 6 with some snowing. That's not so bad for 3 hours if you have a warm coat, a covered head, covered hands, and maybe a blanket to sit on and wrap around the legs.

You might be able to pick up a ticket cheap near the entrance, but they're not too bad on Stubhub right now and they could go down by game day.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy the game! I hope we do, too, because it could be great but it could also be terrible for our team.

Thanks for all the advice... and yes, I am preparing for the cold, last year, my crew and i sat through a high of 38 and windy to watch UNT lose to UTSA... so i guess that can be considered a warm up (cool down?) for Saturday

38 degrees.

I don't have much to add. I'm just excited a third party individual is planning to attend a game featuring "two top level Big Ten schools going at it" and one of those teams is indeed my Gophers. It has such a nice ring to it.

Don't neglect your feet. Consider picking up some foot warmers at a hardware store. They are cheap. Wear boots if you can. The biggest repeated mistake I have seen cold-weather-game-rookies make is to forget about the feet. They are almost always the first body part to become uncomfortable at cold weather games.

IMHO, keep your head and ears warm by wearing a good hat. My preference is a bomber or aviator hat. To me, this is most important.

You can pick one cheap at stores like Sears, TJ MAxx, Marshall's, etc... http://www.sears.com/search=bomber hats

IMHO, if you don't keep your head warm your extremeties (hands, feet) will get cold fast because the blood will be re-directed to your head to keep the noggin warm.

Wear any sort of scarf for extra warmth around the face.

For shoes, I prefer boots with liners in them if possible. I wear one that is half a size larger so I can wear two socks. I'd wear thin inner layer socks with a pail of wool socks to wicker moisture away.

For 20's temp, I'd wear a pair of insulated gloves. If there is wind and sub 20's, lined suede mittens are in order.

Then, I am good to go. This is what I wear when I go ice fishing or walking around neighborhood parks.

Here's what I wore to the Wisconsin game last year
- long underwear (light weight)
- flannel lined cargo pants
- crew neck long sleeve running top
- logo sweatshirt
- Cabella's Snow Runner lined hikers with foot warmers
- down coat with fur trimmed hood
- snowmobile mittens (a mitten with a wrist cuff)

I was never cold. I didn't wear the jacket during the tailgate (three sided tent, grill, tank top heater, and fifteen people + spirits)

It pays to be prepared. A lot of great advice in this thread.

this thread is greatness... i am fully ready to turn into a popsicle on Saturday...

if you guys ever need advice on traveling to Dallas in the summer... a lot of people don't know that flip flops shorts and a t-shirt are perfect.

Can the t-shirt be sleeveless?

what a great experience I had...

bundled up like never before, I managed to stay comfortable throughout the game, thanks to a lot of the advice offered on here. but I arrived to the game, went to my seat... saw the band come out, saw the video production... watched an exciting first half (with the unfortunate field goal given up)

at the half i went to buy some concessions, got some decent hot chocolate, and then bought what was essentially a hot pocket, but described as a calzone(whatever, it was warm)

the second half started to look dismal, and I was about to call to get picked up, the Buckeyes fumbled and the rally was on! good effort, even though it came up short...

all in all a very good stadium experience, and watching a game in the cold was fun... but on the other hand, it does take away from seeing the local talent dressed in skirt and showing off more skin...

thanks Gophers...

Glad you enjoyed your trip. Just curious...how much did you have to spend on a ticket?

paid 37.50 the morning of on stubhub... sat in section 144 about halfway up

Come back again GoMeanGreen for the TCU vs Gophers game next September. It will be warm!

Meangreen, I'm glad that you had a good time! In spite of all the great people that I met when I worked at UNT (1994-2000) I do not recall meeting more than one or two rabid fans. Maybe I didn't hang out in the right places.

you probably could have hung out in the football stadium and only met about 200-300... unfortunately, football is not high on the list of important things at a liberal arts school... nevertheless, with a new stadium and an enthusiastic coach, I truly think that there is a lot of energy towards the team right now... we won a bowl game last year and have struggled this season after losing a ton of key seniors... we are hoping that this is just a rebuilding year, as we really don't want to slip back into obscurity...

if you guys want a look at depression right now... head on over to http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/ and feel better about suffering mere 7 point losses to Ohio State
