Is this a potential trap game for Cal??

1. Early Game and two time zones over...
2. Lost their last 4 road games overall , and lost 8 of last 9 on the road....
3. No competition in first two games for a young QB.....
4. Looking ahead to big games @Oregon, and then hosting USC....
5. Facing extremely energized team and fan base....
6. Own a high ranking and very high expectations in Pac10....

I do not expect the gophers to win..... but if we did, some of these factors are sure to have helped.

I think the only chance the Gophers have is if the offense can score and score early. Score on your first two drives and realy put a little panic in their eyes.

definitely a trap game for Cal in my opinion. They are clearly the better team, but all those points you made will be working against them this saturday. If our D shows up like it has been doing and we can actually play the whole game like a 4th quarter....

buuuuuut.... yea. I'll just watch the game. lol

On the other hand:

-Tedford is 5-0 against the Big Ten, 2-0 on the road (Michigan State, Illinois)
-Cal got embarrassed last year at Maryland and looks to atone for that in this game
-Cal looked sloppy last week in first quarter and first half and the coaches won't let them forget that
-Tedford has played more than 70 players in each of the first two games. Travel squad is only 60, so the two deeps will play even longer. Best has barely played 5 quarters in 2 games.

Not even close to saying Cal will romp, but if they do lose it won't be because they're unprepared, unmotivated and overlooking the Gophs.

Does Cal have an active message board? I can't find any real recent discussion on the Scout or Rivals pages.

Fair enough!! Those are all good points. :)

I agree with all of those except #2 (for the most part). They already atoned for the upset last year by destroying Maryland. Why would they take the Maryland upset last year out on us this year when they have already beat Maryland?

Because it was a nationally televised game against a major conference opponent with a 9 AM PST kickoff. Was also the first road trip of the season and Cal was favored by 2 TDS. Tedford took a lot of crap for flying out to Maryland on Friday last year, so they're leaving on Thursday this week. Michigan State and Illinois were both also 9 AM PST kickoffs.
