I get it, comparing scores can often be silly. You can say Team A beat team B and and team B beat team C therefore Team A would beat team C too. And, if you do this enough you can create paths where Augsburg would beat Alabama. So, with the understanding that it is often BS to make these comparisons - just for fun - what would the Gophers have looked like in the SEC this season, making the reach that the Gophers would be as good or better than Auburn, but playing from Minneapolis - How would MN fare?
Game 1 - Oregon at TCF Bank Stadium WIN - Gophers outgain Ducks by a wider margin than Auburn did. Win by a bigger margin
Game 2 - Tulane at TCF Bank Stadium WIN - 'nuff said
Game 3 - Kent State at TCF Bank Stadium WIN - blowout
Game 4 - @aTm WIN - close victory on the road
Game 5 - Mississippi State at TCF Bank Stadium WIN - comfortable win
Game 6 - @Florida LOSS - Gophers lose by a field goal on the road where the stats are closer than what Auburn achieved.
Game 7 - @Arkansas WIN - Blowout
Game 8 - @LSU LOSS - first downs and yardage differential closer than what Auburn achieved but lose by a field goal like Auburn did.
Game 9 - Ole Miss at TCF bank Stadium WIN - Ole Miss has to deal with statistically better MN team and MN temps. Bigger margin than what Auburn achieved.
Game 10 - Georgia at TCF Bank Stadium WIN - Georgia has to play in mid November at MN and not only loses statistical battle like they did against Auburn, but the battle for the higher score as well.
Game 11 - Samford at TCF Bank Stadium WIN - Blowout, Gophers get to enjoy the SEC tradition of late season cream puffs.
Game 12 - Alabama at TCF Bank Stadium WIN - All our fantasies about seeing an SEC have to play in the snow come true as Alabama visits Minneapolis two days after Thanksgiving in the middle of that big weather system that combined snow and sleet with high winds.
There it is... just for fun using comparisons that often do not hold water. But, for fun... 10-2 in the SEC just like the 10-2 achieved in the B1G. If so, would the Gophers still be ranked in the selection committee rankings all the way down at 18? I doubt it.
I tried to go to great lengths to say this is just for fun and transitive properties are typically not good indicators of who would win a game, but as I post this I will begin the countdown to the first person to tell me what I am already saying I know, as if I don't know it. I'm aware the Gophers struggled at different times compared to Auburn, particularly during the non conference schedule. I get it.
