Kyle Allen has announced he will be leaving Texas A&M
Trevor Knight has announced he will be leaving Oklahoma

1% chance we even try to talk to these guys with Mitch coming back as a senior but.....would either of these 2 be an improvement? Both are more mobile than Mitch.

If they're willing to come here to compete, sure. I don't see how more options could be a bad thing.

I'm guessing both will want to be guaranteed to start though, which we shouldn't and won't entertain.

In the case of Allen, this would be a benefit rather than a detriment as he has to sit out next year anyway and PT at QB is wide open here beginning in 2017. I'm not certain, but fairly positive that Knight is graduating and can play right away next year as a graduate transfer. Nonetheless, neither one of them are coming here so it's academic from the U's standpoint. And yes, both are much better than Leidner.

Kyle Allen was a 5*, likely NFL QB, who will be able to pick where he wants to go and start when he's eligible in 2017. That would be perfect for the Gophers but I think those chances are pretty close to 0.

Trevor Knight would be nice for depth, but he's really struggled since he was injured last year. I don't think he would be guaranteed to start, therefore chances are really low he'd come to the Gophers as well.

We gotta build "Quarterback U" one brick at a time.

Haha there is a .00000001% chance Kyle Allen comes here, he's looking at Oklahoma, Ohio St, etc.

You are right Dpo, Knight will be eligible right away as he graduates in December I believe. Stoops granted him full release.

So this transfer QB merry go round is complete. Trevor Knight to Texas A&M, Kyler Murray to Oklahoma, and Kyle Allen to Houston. Tom Herman really has Houston's trajectory heading upwards and quickly.

Add Will Grier, who's left Florida, to the list.

Has he left- thought he was just suspended for juicing?

He announced that he was transferring at the end of the season. This one is odd to me. He was the starting QB for a top team in the SEC until his suspension. He'd likely be able to start again halfway into next year. Instead he's going to choose to sit out all of next season in order to go somewhere else.

Making a push for Big XII membership, perhaps? :)
(Mostly joking. Mostly.)
I'm willing to bet Houston jumping to the Big 12 happens in the next five years. Rising football program, solid mbb team, top 5 media market... Big 12 would be foolish not to consider bringing them onboard.

This will not likely happen. The Big 12 has nothing to gain from it. The Big 12 already has the Houston TV market. Houston is a commuter school that struggles to get people to show up to games. The Big 12 isn't going to divide the revenue pie with another school that doesn't bring them anything new in fans and in particular TV markets.

Are you saying they have the Houston market because they are all fans of UT-Austin? Or TCU in Ft. Worth?

Here's a link http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/florida-gators/os-gators-will-grier-mike-bianchi-1231-20151230-column.html that gives some answers to Grier. He went from having an amazing season to not having a team. It'll be interesting to see where he end up...

They are not all fans of UT though there are many, however they don't have to be. There are more than enough fans in Houston of all the Texas Big 12 schools that the Big 12 games already are shown on all the major cable providers and satellite providers that cover Houston and its suburbs. The University of Houston doesn't add TV sets because they already get the Big 12 games as well as the longhorn network in the Houston media market. If the Big 12 expands they need to add new markets/new TV's, for example a program like UCF or USF.

Adding Houston would get them closer to the 12 teams necessary to have a conference championship game though.

Davis Webb is leaving Texas Tech, he was the starter there prior to Patrick Mahomes. He'll be a senior.

There are other teams they can add though that actually increase the conference revenue (central Florida, south Florida, etc..). Texas in particular will oppose having to share their piece of the big 12 revenue pie with another school that doesn't help grow it.

Insert generic "The Gophers need to get a transfer QB" comment here.

either one of those qbs on the gopher 2015 roster and Limegrover still has a job at the U.

Five-star/four-star QBs tend to increase job security for coaches? Brilliant insight!

I guess you talk to any of these guys if they called (not likely) but honestly I found Mitch's post Jerry performance encouraging....

I'll take my berating off the air, thanks.
