Yep - if you can’t crack the line up you’re more likely to transfer too.Chicken or the egg?
If they are in the top 247, theyre also probably less likely to transfer because teams will do what they can to keep them.
Agreed. In basketball it feels like there is a much higher percentage of star players transferring. In football there is a ton of movement at the QB position but in terms of other spots it feels like it is either a case of a player who can't crack the depth chart at the bigger schools or a late bloomer that blows up from the smaller schools.
Transfer portal in football is much less chaotic than it is in basketball. Still messy but not nearly in the same way due to the size of the rosters for football vs. basketball.
I'm curious to see how the data plays out over time. The portal isn't exactly a stable system yet and has morphed considerably each of the past three years. There isn't enough solid data to even see a trend at this point, beyond some hypotheses that are likely to be true (e.g., I did well at a low level and so now have options in D1/Power 4 that I did not have before that signficantly enhance my opportunity to get noticed - ala Max Brosmer).100% of the people who confuse correlation with causation will die. Coincidence?
