per Powers:
The coaches have done a good job with Mitch Leidner. I saw Leidner as a quarterback who, in a pinch, could lower his shoulder and get you two or three yards. I also saw him as a quarterback who, on third and long, could lower his shoulder and get you two or three yards. Now he's actually throwing the ball well.
"Mitch threw some balls on Saturday that the timing was good," Kill said. "He got it out. I mean, he made some tremendous throws. Over the last two games, the biggest thing about Mitch is he's relaxed. He had a smile on his face and he went and played."
So there is some hope here as people have discovered that Kill can do more than talk a good game.
"I think it's more excitement than hope," Fruechte said. "Excitement in that you see the improvement and you see what they're talking about."
Again, I'm not sure they are going to be able to tear through their remaining schedule and burst into national prominence. That seems like a little too much a little too fast. And it might be a bit out of character, too. So far, it's about taking small, repeatable steps.
At least there is a pattern, a trend, for people to follow. They may not be sprinting headlong, but at least their direction is clear: They're goin' that-a-way.
