per Powers:

Saturday's loss to the Indiana Hoosiers dropped the maroon and gold to 0-6 in the Big Ten, 6-12 overall. The game also was a smashing success. The Gophers were competitive, losing 70-63. It seemed like a big deal.

"We're not a big moral victory team by any means," Richard Pitino said after the unexpectedly close affair. "But we're going to look back and we're going to say, 'OK guys, if we do this, we're going to be in the game.' "

So in a season of misery, Saturday's contest proved to be a highlight: A good, competitive game. It might even be considered a very large, positive step. One that may or may not be repeatable.

For the rest of the season, the free pass continues. It is a gift to Pitino and the Gophers form the patient people off Minnesota. Let's just hope the incoming recruits are as advertised. I suspect that even the biblical Job had his limits.
