Tom Powers calls Claeys a "mountain of a man" says U will have to consider that

per Powers:

With two seconds left, Claeys chose not to go for a game-tying field goal attempt. Leidner was stopped cold at the line and the Wolverines raced across the field to reclaim the Little Brown Jug. It was a dreadful finish, and Claeys, previously the defensive coordinator, probably did not make the best first impression. Still, he has the rest of the season to establish himself.

One more thing, at the risk of being indelicate: Claeys is a mountain of a man. The last thing the Gophers need is any sort of potential health problem with their next head football coach. It's something the administration, such as it is, will at least have to consider.

Meanwhile, a victory would have been a nice sendoff for Kill. Claeys said he talked with him on the phone Friday. Kill related that he'd be watching on TV. Claeys advised him that might not be wise. As it turned out ...

Go Gophers!!

Whilst he is probably not in good health, his weight is a completely separate issue than his ability to recruit/coach. If he can coach, I don't care if he looks like Kliff Kingsbury or Charlie Weis

Tom powers writes for a rag that has 15 subscribers. An irrelevant idiot. I expect Tommy to be fit as a cheetah with those comments. Cleays is a big boy, so? Loves his fare just like the rest of us. He will decide how he wants to be but its how he coaches and leads the kids on our football team that is what is important. His personal life is his business.

It seems like we have a few Media members who do not approve of People who they deem (not normal)
We really have a few Idiots in this town who call themselfs Journalist.

He can't coach. We just saw that. People want to talk about his "balls" to go for the win with two seconds left, while ignoring that he played for a FG with plenty of time to go in the first half. He benches his All BIG10 punter because of one bad kick, in favor of a guy who isnt even a punter...and I don't even have to go in depth about the final 19 seconds. It was just a disaster. And then he says crap like he "would do it all over again," as if he thinks people were upset for him going for the win with 2 seconds left, and not upset with him for the play he ran prior that took a first and goal from the 1 yard line with 19 seconds left, to game being on the line...and that play call from first and goal from the 1 wasnt even in the endzone. If the player actually catches the ball on that play, the game is likely over, because he gets tackled before he reaches the endzone.

Given that a coach just resigned after four and a half years because of health problems makes Powers' point for him. Obesity causes diabetes, heart and circulation problems, etc., which is why the OC, Limegrover, lost a lot of weight. The DC should have joined him because he is just the age, 47, when these conditions often start being a health problem.

The fact that Claeys is morbidly obese has to be one of the top considerations in deciding whether to hire him permanently. As you said he's nearing 50, which is exactly the age around which someone that unhealthy would usually start having significant health complications.

Only Reusse is far on this board. The rest of are fit as Richard Simmons

It's amazing to me that fat shaming is still widely accepted as ok in this day and age.

It's something to take into consideration behind closed doors, but let's keep it out of the newspaper please.

Powers intention here was not to make a valid point. It was just to take a cheap shot. See below:

I wanted Claeys until I realized he was overweight. Now I don't. Thanks Tom Powers.
