Another article about Kill's health with Powers suggesting Kill owes it to "us" to keep us posted on his health. Although he is nothing like Souhan, he fails to recognize that it is none of our business to know all the details about Kill or anyone else's health situation. If Kill wins the lottery, should he give us a detailed account of what he is doing with the money? According to Power's logic, we should know because this way we can make a more informed decision if Kill is spending enough time coaching or is he too distracted spending his jackpot. Perhaps Power's should publicly post his annual physical results so us readers can decide if he is healthy enough to write and for "us" and for us to bother reading his articles. Yeah, we all want what's best for Coach and I mean no disrespect when I say this, but I really don't need to be in the room when he, Powers, or anyone else is getting their colonoscopy.

Now please, let's get back to football!

Go Gophers!

It's called

HIPAA, do these journalist not even know the basics of our rights as Americans? but let me guess they know freedom of speech, right.

per Powers:

Ultimately, he is correct. When the time comes, Kill will be judged on the quality, preparedness and won-loss record of his football players at the University of Minnesota. But those who care about the Gophers program deserved better than they got from Kill on Tuesday. In his first public appearance since Saturday's sideline seizure, he should have provided an update on his status.

The difference between Kill and his predecessors is that Kill gets flattened by seizures and then quickly pops out of his hospital bed to take care of business. It's a hell of thing, really. He doesn't know when it's coming. He doesn't know how bad it's going to be. Yet he keeps on trucking as if it were all a minor inconvenience.

Go Gophers!!

Tom,

A. He was there and appeared to be fine.

B. What was he supposed to say I had a seizure and I may or not have one in the future?

C. I was bitten by a zombie on the way to the hospital and no longer going to have seizures.

I really don't get why the media has such a hard on for a condition update. The fact he was there seems to prove he was fine.

Duh!

Coach Kill has been very open with his seizures. Maybe Powers needs get a room at Kill's house for cripes sakes!

Go Gophers!!

That's not offensive.

I'm not offended by this article. Powers is not arguing that Kill does not have a legal right to his privacy, just that he believes that Kill should voluntarily share more. Whether or not I agree with him that (a) Kill has not shared enough so far and (b) Kill ought to keep us fully informed are different matters, but this article doesn't really upset me. This is nothing like what Souhan said.

No doubt when Kill talks about it publicly, he's very reassuring/convincing, etc. The reaction I had and others around me had during the second seizure was a complete 180 from the first one and that was clearly the result of how much we learned about it from Kill and his coaching staff.

No problem with the article.

Kill offered a one on one to the stupid reporter that asked a question about his condition immediately after he said he wasn't going to answer questions about his conditioner. If Tom wants to talk, schedule an interview.

Reporters are lazy, self important, children who think they are entitled to something rather than expected to work for it like the rest of us.

They all offend me.

In a separate PP article, Vicki Kopplin from EFMN states this:

Kill has talked about his condition in the past -- but rarely and reluctantly during the season.

"I'm not surprised," said Vicki Kopplin, the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota's executive director. "His work in raising awareness can happen in the offseason. I respect that right now, that he has a football team and program to manage, and doesn't want to detract from that. I respect that! He never wanted all the focus on him."

Kopplin's comments are much more measured and represent a more balanced opinion that Mr. Powers presents.

I'm a little torn on this. On one hand, the media wants Kill to come out and do a news conference and say everything we've already heard about his condition for the past three years. "No, I'm not quitting." "Yes, we talk about it with recruits." "No, it doesn't seem to be hurting recruiting or my work preparing our football team." Blah, blah, blah. No "news" would come from it. It's much ado about nothing, and the media needs to move on.

On the other hand, if Kill did that, the media would move on pretty quickly.

Basically BleedGopher: the ONLY things re: Coach K anyone has to pay attention to...

Go Gophers!!

would be his record of wins vs. losses (ESPECIALLY Conference wins vs. losses), an ever increasing number of graduations for his student athletes, numerous invitations to bowl games and a completely NCAA, School and Conference rules and regulations compliant program. IF all these things are happening, Coach Kill is obviously in control, on the job and doing a great job.

Forget his health. Forget the media. The real REPORT to the people is the ooc and especially the Conference won/loss record. That will tell you what kind of job Coach Kill is doing for the University of Minnesota Football Program. It takes ALL the emotional responses out of the equation. It is right there for us to see, in clear cut, black and white, non-spin NUMBERS. We are in year three. He has had some time to put his program together. He has his staff. The Conference Portion of the 2013 Season is soon upon us. We need improvement...NOT perfection. There will be ups and downs...but this program needs to qualify for a bowl game MOST seasons. No matter how long Coach Kill is here, some seasons will be better than other seasons. And, every once in a while, there will be many key losses to graduation or injury or a combination of both and the "rebuilding, reloading, rethinking, rearranging" mode will commence with the program that will result in revitalization and recharging of the batteries of the program. Unless a program is TOSU-like, most teams in the Conference will go through some of that. Even Michigan and Nebraska and also PSU.

But, watch the Conference Win Vs. Loss mark in this 2013 season. It would be very good if Coach Kill, his staff and their players could win at least 3 Conference games in 2013. THAT would indicate continued improvement. That is all I can ask for as a fan. Improvement would indicate to me that Coach Kill is fully in charge and is doing a great job.

I don't give a crap about whatever hair he has left.

Never underestimate Wren's ability to shoehorn in CONFERENCE wins AND losses ; 0 ). It's truly remarkable.

So you tell ME what would be a better barometer of exactly HOW effective Coach Kill is able to be? IF he wins, he is doing fine. IF he does not win, perhaps his "system" is not working well. Judge the man by his job performance...by the results he achieves. Get rid of all of these emotional responses on either side of this health nonsense. Plenty of people deal with health issues ALL THE TIME. They are judged by the results of their work. NO individual can ask for a more fair standard. A football coach takes his record with him every where he goes. Coach Kill's record and ability to build programs and win football games and COMPETE no matter where he was GOT him the job coaching at Minnesota.

So, if Coach Kill doesn't win more than one Conference game this year what will YOU say about his performance? IF he wins less conference games in 2014 and 2015 than he did in 2011 and 2012 where will YOU stand on his employment at the U? Come on positively4thstreet: just what do YOU have to add to this conversation that is a BETTER indicator or EXACTLY how Coach Kill...his staff...his system are performing in their stated job descriptions?

Or, are you content no matter what the Conference record says. Just WHAT would your criteria be for making an assessment of the work Coach Kill is doing. ISN'T forgetting the health stuff and judging by the RESULTS of the body of work the ONLY fair way to move forward here? Leave Coach Kill's Health Issues to something he, his family and his doctors deal with. Yet, a football coach HAS to compete within the conference. The Conference record tells us exactly how well Coach Kill has the Football Team Competing within the Conference. I am rooting for Coach Kill to improve this program and to compete within this conference. IF his record says he is doing that...he is doing that. Regardless of what any journalist...or...poster on GopherHole may contend.

We get it, dude. It's all you ever post.

And ultimately, what do you base your support for Coach Kill on? How long will it last? What might make you change your mind?

Here is hoping for a LOT of Conference wins in 2013...and beyond. Because, if they don't happen, people like you may not be quite so supportive of the Good Coach. I have seen how U of M Football Fans tend to change their tunes the minute the going gets a little rough. Usually, it all revolves around how many conference football games the team wins...or doesn't win.

As the Conference Record goes...so goes the majority of the "die-hard" fans who claim to be "on board..." Time will tell...or, should I say "Conference finish standings" will tell. It always does...

Good point. This would clearly put the ball in the media's court and de-fang them to a great degree.
