per The Blade:

Wisconsin had its College Football Playoff chances dented with last Saturday’s head-scratching loss to Illinois, creating an elimination game for the Badgers on Saturday against Ohio State.

The loss, obviously, hurt Wisconsin the most.

But who did the stunning upset help most in college football?

We asked our staff that question:

ASHLEY BASTOCK

The easy answer here is Minnesota, especially because the Golden Gophers get to take on Wisconsin at home to close out the regular season, but on a more micro scale, I'm saying former Michigan and current quarterback Brandon Peters and Illinois coach Lovie Smith. The win will likely be Illinois' signature win of this season. While Peters' stats weren't gaudy in this game, the fact he is actually playing (as opposed to sitting on the bench at Michigan), and helped get this kind of win validates his choice to transfer. With Chris Ash out at Rutgers, Smith is probably the Big Ten coach most likely to be on the hot seat. This win may have quieted that talk for this year.

Minnesota, which now has a decent chance to call off Wisconsin's coronation in the Big Ten West. Never mind the still-unbeaten Gophers have played one FBS team with a winning record (Nebraska). They're playing with big-time confidence, and that counts for plenty. The West will be won — or lost — when Minnesota hosts the Badgers in the season finale.

I think it helps Minnesota the most. The Golden Gophers are unbeaten and now atop the Big Ten West. That division will likely be determined the last game of the year between Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Wisconsin loss gives Minnesota a bit of breathing room, especially if the Badgers lose at Ohio State on Saturday. With tough games against Penn State and at Iowa coming up, however, we will find out a lot about Minnesota and how much the Wisconsin loss to Illinois will really benefit them.
