TCF opening it's doors today rights the wrongs done to Paul Giel and the U back on 12/1/78 when the commission voted to build the Downtown Dome.

For less the a tenth the cost of TCF (granted in 1978 dollars) they could have remodeled Memorial Stadium. Has the Dome been a success? Would the Gophers have been better at Memorial Stadium? Would Cal Stoll have been run out of town to put Salem in if they weren't going into a spanking new HHH Dome? Would we have had to put up with Holtz's treachery and Wacker's boundless enthusiasm and lack of success?

Who the heck knows.

What I do know is that those of us who fought 30 years ago were wrong big time about one thing. We wanted a remodeled Memorial Stadium and a football stadium next to Metropolitan Stadium. Why a remodeled Memorial Stadium may have changed the Gophers fortunes these past 27 years, we were dead wrong about Bloomington needing their stadiums.

Who the hell thought that people would fly-in from Japan and drive-in from everywhere in the five states and beyond year round to buy clothes and trinkets at a Mall in Bloomington!

Welcome home Gophers. It's good to have you back!:clap:
