To bad for Clay that there is more to being a head coach -

Clays is a good coach, even more so a good D coach. However there are two other desirable requirements that he lacked, recruiting and PR (Kill knew this).
Recently,before all the bad publicity he cut back on his public connections.

I hear all the time that the attendance drop was due to the increase in prices. True is some cases, but look at the Vikings. This year their fans (some were also Gopher fans) had to cough up tons for the seats and tickets, but they did! Are the Vikes in the Play Offs?

I remember when Lou Holtz came to the gophers, we had a bad team but he sold out the Dome.

Oh! by the way the Gophers are last in this years recruiting ratings.

Sooo Even though I liked Clays, I hated to see it end like this, But in the long run we did the right thing.
 

I believe you are right in your assessment. But Claeys could have grown into that role.
