This maybe doesn't deserve it's own thread (okay it probably doesn't) but I am so tired of the argument,

"How will we EVER match up with Wisconson's shooting, Dirk Nowitzki cloaned, big men??????????"

I think the better question is ...

"How is Jon 'I make Chris Bosh look like Shaq' Leuer going to stop Trevor Mbakwe, Ralph Sampson, Mo Walker, and Colton Iverson?"

Just my rant for the day ... thanks!

I agree. We should create match up problems for just about every team we play.

Leuer isn't exactly weak on the inside. Nankivil is a beast, and Berggren is plenty thick. The way the Badgers play help defense, I think UW will be okay defending the paint. Meanwhile, those three guys are shooting 48% from behind the arc (39/82), with Bruesewitz chipping in at 45% (9/20). Unfortunately for UM's bigs, they won't be defending the paint-unless you want to play a zone against those shooters (probably not).

I guarantee the Badgers will get plenty of zone looks.

Against who? When they play Northwestern and Michigan, sure- just like everybody else. Ohio State will likely zone them a bit as well, but after that, I just don't see it. Weber and Painter will not play a zone, and I don't think Izzo or Crean will either outside of a possession or two. How much zone have you guys played this year? I might be wrong, but Tubby is basically a man-to-man guy just like every other good college basketball coach, no? (outside of Boeheim and John Chaney)

I'll gladly face a zone-- bomb away and get offensive boards all day long.

I was only talking about the Gophers vs. Badgers matchup. They mixed in a healthy dose of 2/3 zone against Wisconsin last year, how'd that work out?

Sounds like the Badger frontcourt is unstoppable though. Tough as nails on the boards with silky smooth shooting strokes out to NBA range. Not sure how you game plan for that kind of versatility.

Mbwake on Leur and Sampson on Nankavik. Williams matches up with the three, guards can drop off and help. Three points from the guards is not Wisky's strength. I think the Gophs will match up fine on defense

Good plan. Its hard to rely on 3 point shooting for an entire season.

That's true if you are relying on one or two guys that opposing teams can key on, or if you have a perimeter oriented team that doesn't rebound or defend the paint well. None of those conditions are true about UW. Regardless, the point was about playing against a zone, not about the focus of an offense over the course of a season.
