When asked the time frame for hiring a new coach, didn't Maturi say "by Christmas we should have it done"? I thought I remember some on here criticizing that statement. Then in an interview with the Star Tribune didn't Bruininks, when asked for a time frame say, "should be completed by the holidays"?
So, two people with intimate knowledge of the situation have told us the same thing. Yet, we refuse to believe it. Could there be a reason why they both said the same thing?
Firing early only givs the upper echelon programs a head start. A program like MN will not be the first choice for coaches like Mullen or Golden. These coaches will wait to see what other jobs are open before they decide. There are only a few premier open coaching programs. Sometimes patience can be more important than panic.
If Maturi or Bruininks would have said, "we should have someone in place by Dec 1", I would be worried. They didn't and Bruininks seems very positive about the search. It is hard to wait, especially for the media. I am still cautiously hopeful MN will get the best coach that "wants" to come here. We'll see.
