Just a few notes on today's Insight Bowl press conference...I didn't really take any notes, since it was so informal, but here are some of the highlights:

-Brewster seemed pretty upbeat today, more so than the past few press conferences...

-He said that the seniors would not be taking part in the first five practices for the bowl game. He sited a few reasons for this; one of which was that the seniors would be able to lift weights for a longer time, and secondly so that the younger players would get more practice time, since the'll be the ones benefiting more from the bowl game and the practices

-He said that Decker, Rallis, and Brandon would be out for the game, but that everyone else would be ready to go

-He talked about Iowa State, and that they run a spread offense...he talked more about their defense, and that you have to work well "within space" to beat them. They're very aggressive as well

-When talking about Sun Devil Stadium, Brewster mentioned that he thought the stadium had the best field he had ever been on, and that it was a tremendous place for a bowl game

-When asked about any concerns about the layoff between the last game of the season and the bowl game, Brewster said he wasn't concerned about the layoff, saying that they have been having "Captains Practice" for some time now, and felt that the practice they had yesterday was very good.

-When asked if there were any positions that would possibly struggle more with the layoff than others, Brewster said there wasn't really any particular position that he worried about more than others.

-When asked about his favorite moment of last year's bowl, he didn't really have one, but credited the hospitality of the folks in Tempe for making it such an enjoyable experience

-There were several members of the Insight Bowl committee present at the press conference, welcoming people to Tempe for the bowl game. When one of them spoke about coming down for the nice weather, a photojournalist in the room asked if that meant he didn't like the weather here...his reply was that "it's great up here!"...he wasn't very convincing.

-They mentioned that with this year's bowl invitation, Minnesota was now the favorite team of all time for the Insight Bowl. Later on, it was also mentioned that the Insight Bowl was now Minnesota's favorite destination as well. (Tying it with the Music City Bowl, of course...)

-They also talked about the events they have in store for the bowl game, including the New Years Eve block party, which will feature the Doobie Brothers this year...they mentioned that it is considered one of the 10 greatest places to be on New Years Eve in the country.

-There were also several representatives of the Tempe Diablos present at the press conference. During the press conference, they presented Kachina dolls to President Bruininks, Joel Maturi, and Tim Brewster. In the ironic moment of the press conference, President Bruininks (who was not present) was presented with....

wait for it...

of all things...

...THE BADGER KACHINA.

Wop, Wop...

Thanks for the summary, and it's a cheap-shot but I can't help it...I only see one tremendous in there. Surely that isn't all there was?
