I was listening to Brewster last week and he was saying he was contacted about Thursday night games. He commented that he would like them. I can see how you get national exposure because you are one of the few games on TV.

It would be difficult for folks like myself to get off of work and make it to the game. You would either see a lot of empty seats or a lot of folks selling them.

We've had a few in the last 10 years.......

But I think they were all opening week.......

downside is there are many fans that travel from outstate. This would make it hard for them to get to the game qwith their children who would be in school. One of the complaints with the dome was we had to play some Thursday night game to accomadate the Twins. Why should we now play on Thursday for tv when all of our games are on tv anyway.

distance

I travel up the interstate from the south to go to Gopher games. It is surprising how many people you see wearing Maroon and Gold as they pass me on the road. So if those folks work for someone else they would have a hard time making the games. I get the TV exposure though.

Football was meant to be played on Saturdays. That's when I prefer the Gophers to play.

I agree, I don't want weekday games. I suppose the exposure is good but as a fan the only positive is it would be a night game.

The B11 doesn't play Thursday games so if MN did play on Thursday night it would be a non conference game with some national appeal. It would be great for recruiting. If MN plays one home Thursday night game every two years or so I would be fine with it and the out of metro fans shouldn't complain. Besides I think night games at TCF have a much better crowd.

I live in Nebraska. I am a Gopher fan. I have made 5 of the 7 home games this year. I think one Thursday night game would be awesome. Early October so on the Friday after I could get some golf going in MInnesota. One Thusrday night game a year would be great.

If it happens, it would happen maximum once a year. You would know well ahead of time. Make a weekend of it! Take a vacation day or two, bring the kiddies, go to the hockey game the night after. If you live that far away, spending a weekend, instead of just one afternoon, in the Cities could be fun for all!

I think if it's planned in advance, it could work. The problem with the 2002 Thursday night games was that they were only switched a week or two before to accommodate the Twins.

If it was planned in advance and knew who the team coming was and they were a quality program, I agree with craw0092....coming in on a Thursday and having a nice long extended weekend in the cities wouldn't be such a bad thing. In fact, I like the idea of a non-conference game with Big XII, Pac Ten or ACC team on a Thursday night. I think it could work, as long as some thought went into the game.

Thursday night is the MAC's domain

Let the MAC have the Thursday nights. Its their big moment.

Actually, I agree with this. But not quite so condescendingly. :)

I think it is good for college football if those non-BCS conferences get some exposure. Im not talking about Boise State, TCU, Utah, blah, blah, blah. Many of those games are equally exciting and worth watching. If those schools have zero chance at a national title, the college football world does owe them some tv time, other than Penn St trouncing Eastern Illinois every week.

Actually no, Thursday night is now a BCS conference night. It used to be the home of the MAC's and WAC's of the world. But now it is almost entirely BCS schools playing BCS schools. In fact, the ACC is the new king of Thursday nights. Even USC played on Thus last season against Oregon State. Look at the list for this season (I know I'm missing 10/15):
Thursday, Sept. 3: South Carolina at N.C. State
Thursday, Sept. 3: Oregon @ Boise State
Thursday, Sept. 10: Clemson at Georgia Tech
Thursday, Sept. 17: Georgia Tech at Miami
Thursday, Sept. 24: Mississippi at South Carolina
Thursday, Oct. 1: Colorado at West Virginia
Thursday, Oct. 8: Nebraska at Missouri
Thursday, Oct. 22: Florida State at North Carolina
Thursday, Oct. 29: North Carolina at Virginia Tech
Thursday, Nov. 5: Virginia Tech at East Carolina
Thursday, Nov. 19: Colorado at Oklahoma State
Thursday, Nov. 26: Texas at Texas A&M
Thursday, Dec. 3: Oregon State at Oregon

Conference Breakdown:
SEC: 2 teams in 2 games
- S. Carolina x2
- Ole Miss x1
ACC: 6 teams in 6 games
- N.C. State x1
- Clemson x1
- G. Tech x2
- FSU x1
- UNC x2
- Va Tech x2
Big East:1 team in 1 game
- WVU x1
Big 12: 6 teams in 4 games
- Colorado x2
- Nebraska x1
- Missouri x1
- Texas x1
- Texas A&M x1
- OSU x1
Pac-10: 2 teams in 2 games
- Oregon St. x1
- Oregon x2

There are some big names teams there. The B10 is the only conference not taking advantage of the prime time exposure (though the Big East, SEC, and Pac-10 certainly weren't a huge presence this season either). Heck, the ACC and Big 12 have half of each of their conference teams playing at least 1 game on a Thursday night!

I understand the concerns about it being a weekday night. But these games are scheduled and the dates released back in FEBRUARY. That's plenty of time to plan around them or find someone to take the tickets. I'm all in favor of playing a game or two on Thursday night. But for me its because I love night games and am willing to sacrifice 2 days of vacation to come up from Madison and spend a long weekend in the Cities.

Just this year teams from these conferences have played on Thursday nights:

PAC-10: Oregon

Big 12: Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma State

ACC: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami(FL), Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech

SEC: South Carolina, Ole Miss,

Big East: West Virginia, Cincinnati, South Florida, Rutgers

That's half of the ACC and half of the Big East playing at least one Thursday night game. I think if the Gophers play one a year it will increase the national exposure of the program and will give out of state recruits a chance to see the team on national television.

Also the MAC plays on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays now as well.

I knew I was missing some teams and the Rutgers/USF (11/12) and USF/Cincy (10/15) were the games I missed.

Already scheduled:
9/2/10 @ Middle Tenn State

I would like to see these moved to Thursday:
10/8/11 @ Indiana
10/6/12 Indiana @ TCF
