This team is going no where if it continues to give up double-digit 3's and miss FTs!

With Al back the turnovers will go down and the on-court leadership will go up, but the team defense against a hot-shooting B10 team will be annihilated. On the other side in close games we have 3-4 players on the court at any given time that are lucky to make one free-throw. Guys like Trevor, Colton, Big Mo, and even Rodney Williams and Joseph have been atrocious. Those first four games to the B10 season are brutal and a 1-3 record is very likely.

True they are not recovering when the ball is passed back outside, from the post, for the three. But, they are going to see a lot of threes because other teams can't get much going on inside.

I know it's Tubby's style to get the ball out of the post but with 2 strong inside players on the floor at all times this year, one would think the guards wouldn't have to double down as aggressively and teams would still have trouble operating inside.

ONE WOULD THINK?

Is it really necessary to have a thread pointing this out every other day? And Akron shot 32% from three today. It seems like people have the idea that we were lit up from deep.

In a science experiment, you have constants and variables.

Constants: We dominate the paint on D, so opposing teams will shoot a ton of outside shots.

Variables: Our perimeter defense can be anywhere from decent to terrible, and opposing teams can be cold or absolutely en fuego (UVA) from outside.

When teams shoot 30 3's in a game, chances are they're going to make at least 10. Our offense needs to keep up, because teams are going to score from the perimeter. If we can make our layups/dunks/FTs (i.e., the easy ones), it will take a hot team will beat us.

I'm sick of this topic as well. Whoever posts next is right, I shouldn't have commented :D

"This team is going nowhere."

So are they headed the same place you are?

Akron made virtually no attempt at an inside game. I think the way we played was acceptable. There were some defensive lapses but overall they played fairly well. Akron was hot in the first half and we were ice cold mainly because of poor shot selection. Second half was a different story when we took better shots and took the game inside. Turnovers and sloppy play let this game be close at all in the second half.

Double digit 3's isn't a problem as long as teams keep jacking up 30 per game. The average team shoots 34% from the three point line. Akron shot 32% last night from three. Sure they made 10, but they attempted 31. The Gophers will win plenty of games when their opponents misses 21 3s.

Gophers shot wonderfully from the line against WVU and the end of the UNC game ... big pressure games.

FT's are a very legit concern as we rank dead last in the BT at 62.5% and Wisky is far away the leader at an impressive 79.9%. We are #10 in the BT as opposing teams average 37% making 95 of 259 3PT attempts and take 24 a game. Purdues opponents take half as many 3's.

No one is close to 3pt attempts as Iowa is next at 213.

I bet that Tubby will make that change.
