Mike Patrick last night said Gray moved to WR because we are so thin at that position. He later commented that Stoudamire moved from WR to CB because we are so thin there. The truth is we are thin everywhere. In 3+ years of recruiting/roster management it's simply amazing that we are still so thin. What other BCS team would even think (or have to) move a starting WR to CB, and have him start there two weeks later?

Brewster has left us off worse then we were in 2006 & let me explain why. I believe we have a more talented team then in 2006 but the problem is half the players were recruited for an Offense we don't even run anymore...

This may be true, but I think the jury is still out on the talent part.

How does that explain the sloth like defense?

Define talent? What does that even mean?

Is it upgraded talent without direction or were we misled as to the quality of the iincoming recruiting classes? Hard to figure out what's gone so terribly wrong.

Take a look at the list below. This is one reason why we are so thin. This is Mason's 2006 class and the remaining ones are 5th year Srs.: Weber, Burris, Alford, Ellestad the only ones contributing. The rest either tranferred, quit, were kicked off, went to prison, Wey injured and Campbell and Brown are likely the only two that could have played for a contending team. A glaring example of a lack of quality players on this list.

Will there come a time when we can consistently RS a majority of the freshmen and play mostly Jr, Sr.s and 5th year SR's? Last year we graduated a boatload of Sr.s. who paid their dues.

The new guy must bring in an upgrade in talent and build solid depth which will take time if he can get it done.

I agree. Take a look at the 2007 class and you will find much of the same. The 2006/2007 recruiting classes should be the foundation of this team. We will be better able to assess Brewster's recruiting when they are RS Juniors and Seniors.

We probably start as many seniors as every team in the country, nobody starts 22 seniors. We do seem to start less freshman and soph's than most teams.

Mason's last recruiting class but apparently no one from the last 4 classes can't step up? That is silly. Its not like we are asking all true freshmen to start.

I'm not seeing a whole lot of these guys step up. Sometimes redshirt freshmen and sophomores can play. Brandon Green, Bryant Allen, Hayo Carpenter, Stoudermire, etc have all been highly hyped and there is little to nothing there in terms of production.

Michael Carter highly hyped as well and he has been mostly down with a few good plays.

Even at RB, there is no star workhorse to grind games out.

I don't think Mason can be an excuse anymore. Yeah, he did no one any favors, but it shouldn't take 5 years to find more than 1 or 2 good players. It should also be a major red flag that he needed to keep filling spots with juco transfers.

You can't blame Mason for losing at home to South Dakota, you just can't...

Did I miss something? The discussion was more about the depth (or lack thereof) of talent on this team. Clearly, that would include a look at the players from the 2006/2007 classes that should be the foundation of the team. I think it's fair to say that those classes were pretty underwhelming. The lack of coaching stability and quality has certainly compounded those issues and makes it nearly impossible to evaluate the depth of talent on this roster.
I tend to think the talent is better than what the results have indicated. We will have a better idea in the next couple of years under the new coaching staff if that is the case.

It's an absolute mess. I believe Brewster was a somewhat better recruiter than Mason was, but Brewster seemed to get all hepped up about 40-times and bench press reps and forgot that no high school kid could simply walk onto a college football field and play.

I think we play way too many Freshmen and Sophomores. I don't know if you can blame Brewster for that or if the cupboard was simply so bare when Mason left that Brewster believed he had to play guys like McKnight. Mason never seemed to have much quality depth, but he did seem to get the best 22 guys on the field each season.

We really should quit comparing Mason and Brewster. It doesn't do us much good right now.

God what a bad class if those guys are all there is to show for it...

This may be true, but I think the jury is still out on the talent part.

No, its not. Even if there were no coaches on the field, you should still be able to see talent in some of the players. The one exception is Gray - even with just moving to WR, you still see the talent, even with limited coaching and experience at the position.

The rest of the players, expecially on defense - where is the talent???? Similar to Gray they have limited coaching and experience. Yet, I don't see one guy that stands out on D at all. I don't see talent. Saturday was game #9 of the year. The inexperience card is getting harder to play at this point.

Brew was brought in to sell the program and recruit talent. He tried his best to do the former, and failed miserably on the latter.

I agree with what you are saying. I was just trying to say I haven't seen the talent yet, maybe there are some players that will develop(those that are rs or haven't had a chance yet). But so far I have not seen the talent.

Due to injuries, Iowa was forced to start a true FR and RS FR at LB vs. MSU last week. Anyone know how that went? MSU's offense is designed to put maximum pressure on the oppositions' LBs. Anyone know how that worked? I bet Iowa would have won had they been able to start 3 5th year seniors at LB.
